Kyle Larson Wins By .001 Seconds In NASCAR's Closest Finish Ever

The Kentucky Derby wasn't the only photo finish this weekend. Kyle Larson just won the closest finish in NASCAR history over Chris Buescher by just .001 second at Kansas.

It seems 2024 has ushered in this new trend of incredibly close finishes in both the Cup Series and Xfinity Series. NASCAR fans are lucky to have watched not one, not two, but THREE photo finishes this year. 

But unfortunately for Ford, it's also ushered in a new trend of their drivers getting beat in heartbreaking fashion in pursuit of their first win of the season. What looked like could've finally been their breakthrough tonight at Kansas turned into the THIRD time this year that they were beat in photo finish fashion. 

First it was at Atlanta, what I previously called one of the best finishes ever, where Chevy driver Daniel Suarez beat Ryan Blaney and the Ford's by .003 seconds

Then in the Xfinity Series Ford driver Ryan Sieg lost by .002 second to Sam Mayer at Texas

And finally tonight, the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history. Larson nails the overtime restart at Kansas and gets to the line .001 second ahead of Chris Buescher for his 2nd win of 2024.

While all three exciting finishes came at the expense of Ford, something tells me they're on the verge of a big breakthrough.

Their slump can't last forever. 2023 was a massive success for the Mustangs as Ryan Blaney won the Championship, and Chris Buescher had a breakout year in which he won three races, two of which were back to back. 

It's only a matter of time before they're back in victory lane as they literally couldn't be closer.
