Should People Boycott The Herald Until They Fire John Tomase?

As everybody knows by now John Tomase did his best to get invited on WEEI and Around the Horn next week by writing an article insinuating that the Pat's videotaped the Rams Fluff Practice before the Superbowl. Of course he refused to name his source even though everybody already knows it's former Pats employee Matt Walsh who was fired 3 years ago and has an axe to grind with the team. Walsh had been this shopping this story to anybody who would listen and he finally hit the jackpot with Tomase who was as desperate as Walsh to make a big splash at the Superbowl. In many respects it was a match made in heaven. Anyway, I've already written a blog about how ridiculous this entire thing is, but I want to take it to the next level. I don't think we should let Tomase get away with this type of yellow journalism. Drastic times calls for drastic measures. I think we need to boycott the Boston Herald (except the Inside Track) until Tomase either issues a formal apology for publishing this garbage or the Herald fires his ass. Something has to give here. I'm not going to just sit by and let some fat bastard reporter who is desperate for attention make shit up just so he can see his name in lights. Not on my watch.
I have boycotted this rag for years already. It's only use is for easy reading on airplanes. John has just "Borges'd" his career.
What's wrong with what he did? There's a story, and as a journalist he wrote an article about it. El pres, I know you've only been a pats fan for 7 years, but what exactly is he making up? Do you think he's really making this up or are you too much of a homer and just think that he made up some story about the pats filming practice?
at least just say that the pats were a good team and won and that the videotape had nothing to do with it.
Tomase is garbage. He couldn't hold Mike Reiss' jock.
This whole thing got me to thinking, when was the paradigm shift where sports reporters became the story? I mean, Dan Rather always tried to do this to a degree on CBS, but I am having a hard time pin pointing when it happened in "sports journalism." To a degree I think it started with Peter Gammons, who, I think does good work. But once PTI and Around the Horn got going it was a free for all. At any rate, it sucks.
Also, I am not journalist, but don't you need more than a "source" to publish something. What is stopping me from saying a "source" told me Tomase receives regularly at the Chandler Inn?
The source is a joke. Nobody else has taken this source/clown up because it's widely known he has an axe to grind. Tomase just wanted his name in lights. Don't publish without the source coming forward. AKA Matt Walsh.
thatguy-he wrote a story told by a douchebag looking for money. Dropping the story when he did is the height of tabloid journalism. All hearsay, no facts, but JT will have his 24 hours of fame.
And he looks weird.
Jack Osborne writes for the herald? Man he let himself go huh?
Please see Jimmy Johnson's comments on video taping signals...
Mad Dog "How bout this spying thing, your a coach, does that bug you, does that bother you with what Belichick did?"
Jimmy "Oh please, I have said this on our show, 18 years ago one of the scouts on the Kansas City Chiefs told me about what they did and he said what you need to do it take your camera and zoom in on the signal caller and that way you can synch it up, you know, with the film, the problem is that if they are on the pressbox side, you can do it from the press box, but if they are on the press box side then you have to do it from the sideline. This was 18 years ago"
Mad Dog "So you think the NFL came down to hard on them?
Jimmy "No no, I mean, you know.. I said it on the show Bill was wrong for doing it for the simple reason the league knew this was going on, Not just in New England but around the league and the league sent out the memorandium to all the teams saying you cannot do this, and so that is when Bill Belechick was wrong. After he got the the memorandium saying dont do this anymore, he did it."
Mike "Did you ever steal signals?"
"Oh in a heartbeat, yeah yeah I did"
Mad Dog " Via Video Jimmy or no?"
Jimmy "Oh yeah, I did it with video and so did alot of other teams in the league, just to make sure you could study it and take your time cause your going to play the team the second time around, but I did and alot of coaches did this was common place.
Mike "Did you do it by taping the signal caller?"
Jimmy " Yeah thats what I'm saying I was taught by one of the scouts, one of marty Shottenhiemers scouts Mark Hatly, who is passed away now, mark told me thats how they did and Howard Mudd thier offensive line coach with Kansas City who now coaches for Tony Dungy, he was the best in the entire league at stealing signals."
Mike :Where did you put your guy who was videotaping, where was he?
Jimmy " Actually what.. my guy was next to my camera crew in the press box. So you just put an extra camera with your camera crew in the press box and zoom in on the signal caller. Thats the best way to do it but you cant always do it because the pressbox might be on the same side as the opposing team. If they are on the same side as the oppsoing team that is when you have to do from the sidelines."
Mike "There is also operations in some teams in the league where they have vidoe stuff set up inside stadiums to check things out and they can run things back durning the game anyway."
Jimmy "Oh I'll tell you some of the stuff, some of the stuff that goes on is almost comical."
Mike "How much of an advatage did it give them?"
Jimmy "Bradshaw and I have talked back and forth on this, I did it for a few times and then I stopped doing it cause I didnt think we got much out of it to be honest with you. But if it gives you, games are so close, if it gives you one single play in the ball game it might be the difference. But again, he was wrong to do this after the memorandium was sent out because the league knew that othe teams were doing it. And so, It was a common place thing though.

Starts about half way through the file.
curtis- calm down- fuck u everyone- pay 47 10 wirte it doiwn- soog u the man. sully9 u r gettin there. good job.
I have never so many people try to throw a team off its game all year long as this year with the Pats. Every week there has been some different stupid shit, and most teams would eventually let it get to them. Not this team. In addition to a 19-0 record, the fact that they never let ANYTHING get to them makes them the best team ever. Teams in the 1980s/1990s didnt have to deal with all this media bullshit.
That would work about as well as a high school lunch boycott. You're still going to end up eating chicken-neck nuggets because you simply can't resist.
Why is the guy from Blues Traveler covering the PAtriots for the Herald?
He's right to investigate. The Pats are a bunch of cheating bitches.
I like this game. Who can come up with the best obscure look a like for Tomasse? I think he looks more like the fat guy from the video game store in Cloak and Dagger.
It goes both ways...
From NY times,
"Quarterback Tom Brady moved well throughout practice and said his sprained left ankle did not bother him at all. ''On Sunday night, I expect it to be 100 percent,'' he said.
Halfway through practice, Patriots' linebackers coach Pepper Johnson noticed something in a third-floor window of a house next to the field.
Club and league officials said a telescope was clearly visible in the window, according to a pool report, and that 15 minutes later, a person appeared at the window, and then vanished. "

It should be illegal for nerds who never played a sport in their life to get payed to write or talk about them. We have way too many in Boston.
The biggest douche/Pat hater ever Merrill Hoge just said that the Pats should have the ring stripped if its true that the Pats taped the walkthrough. Heres my honest question who the fuck is not gonna notice this man taping a practice? I mean I'm sure that the Rams know who is taping their practices and would notice something out of the ordinary. This whole fucking story is a joke. Mike Shannahan used to use binoculars to steal signals. I mean this shit happens all the way from pop warner to high school to college. People need to fucking stop pretending this is a story. Tomase is going to fucking choke on a chicken bone. The funny thing is as much as we all rip on Felger even he knows better than this.
1. Someone should create a website with the Name, E-Mail Address, Picture and description of all journalists that perpetuate these derogatory claims against this great team. We the community should encourage all sports and entertainment establishments in New England to not serve these slanderous punks. Enemies of the fucking state.
2. This is the Super Bowl that followed 9/11. You know...the one that they considered canceling or postponing. You couldn't even piss near either of the teams without getting shot at. I'm sure security was high at the practices too...bags were most likely searched and visitors were scrutinized. So you're telling me some random guy with a camera got into the practice facility with absolutely no credentials and just started videotaping ?
I'm a long time reader of the stool. But this....this fucking shitty act of betrayal is what finally got me to register and voice my opinion.
We should run this cocksucker out of town.
Iron Mike. I heard that shit Hoge said too. Fuck that guy. I hate him so much. I really really hate him.
This is bullshit by Tomase too. I'll give him a pass though. Up until now he's been pretty good and I thought he was cooler because he was younger, but this report was really disappointing.
Sports reporters have dropped below lawyers and used car salesmen.
RussellTupper
Fuck a pass. First he tried to drive Manny out of town. Now he takes a rehashed story and throws the Patriots under the bus the day before the biggest game in the franchises and arguably the NFL's history.
Why didn't he go full force with this story a couple of months ago when he first alluded to it? Was he waiting till the inevitable Super Bowl visit?
And is anyone surprised the the Herald has buried this article deep in it's sports page on the website? The moron developer who did their CSS didn't take into account 28 pages of Tomase fat jokes.
Belichick might say sorry, but he's not taking off his glasses.
The Boston Herald is currently deleting all negative posts. They have also disabled their image verification essentially shutting down the comments system while they conveniently clean up. This is bullshit.
tomase can go choke on a big andre tippett sized cock for putting this shit out there. and as a member of the barstool sports army i encourage people to fuck this guy up in public if they see him walking down the steet (seriously, kick his dig, rape his sister, whatever......) however, i am very nervous that there is truth to this story and that would make the pats look bad. its not that they would be the only team guilty of it, just that they would get caught and have losers like merrill hoge and steve young say shit about it.
i hope tomase gets AIDS!!!!
All right Born. You're right. Fuck a pass. There's no one left to read in this town. Maybe Bradford. Gasper looks 12 and gay. Reiss I like so maybe he's one of the few left.
jtomase@bostonherald.com
So who had bigger Breasts? Tomase or Lisa Olson?
The facts are these:
1.) The whole media industry is in the toilet.
2.) Sports journalism is attractive to people who are academically dumb yet want to get into sporting events for free and travel on someone else's dime.
3.) Take 1.) and 2.) together and you have way too many sports media hacks chasing a shrinking supply of jobs.
4.) To survive, they have to elevate themselves with 'shock' journalism
5.) Tomase will next re-appear as the new Dough Boy in Pillsbury commercials.
This dickhead did a piece a few years ago about Manny Ramirez when he was with the Lawrence Eagle Tribune
John Tomase tears into Manny Ramirez today, claiming that Ramirez simply does not care at all about baseball this season.
Among the quotes from this piece:
Players who care don't leave games after getting hit by pitches that wouldn't have hurt a Little Leaguer.
Players who care don't seek days off like the office hypochondriac.
Ramirez has done all of these things in a brazen affront to the organization and a metaphorical middle finger to its fans. The days of writing off his behavior as quirky are over. He's robbing the Red Sox and more than indirectly contributing to the cost of baseball's highest tickets.
Later on, he adds:
So while the fans take out their frustration on players like Millar and Mark Bellhorn, who barely make $6 million a year between them, Ramirez coasts along, hitting .260, disappearing in the clutch and taking the occasional day off.
He does note that Manny has actually only missed four games this season, so I'm a little confused as to how Manny is taking these "occasional" days off. It's also interesting that Tomase claims the pitch that hit Manny over the weekend wouldn't have hurt a little leaguer, while one of Ramirez's teammates, who probably has a better knowledge of the situation said in Gordon Edes' column this morning,
"Don't be too hard on Manny," one teammate advised. "He got hit pretty good. He wouldn't have been of much use to us."
Interestingly, on the occasions in the past when Manny has been out of line, you'd be hard pressed to find a teammate sticking up for him. This time it appears to be legit. I'm not sure why Tomase has chosen this incident to make this fuss, as that pitch certainly looked like it hurt. It appeared to bounce right off the ankle or shin bone.
Once a publicity seeking cockhead, always a publicity seeking cockhead. Go hang yourself Tomase.
to quote BornandRaised:
"I'm a long time reader of the stool. But this....this fucking shitty act of betrayal is what finally got me to register and voice my opinion."
The same here. I have always abhorred Tomas' subtle negativity, but this is too much. Sorry anyone at the Herald with any journalistic integrity, but I can no longer read any article written in you sorry excuse for survival toilet paper.
Obviously this "guy" hasn't seen sunlight in years (I use quote marks because he looks like the old SNL character PAT). What if, after he was done cooking up some SpongeBob Mac and Cheese, he cooked up this story simply to fuel the Patriots to decapitate the Wee-Men? Whenever controversy has arisen around the Pats, they stick up their middle fingers and destroy their opponents.
tomase can go choke on a big andre tippett sized cock for putting this shit out there. and as a member of the barstool sports army i encourage people to fuck this guy up in public if they see him walking down the steet (seriously, kick his dig, rape his sister, whatever......) however, i am very nervous that there is truth to this story and that would make the pats look bad. its not that they would be the only team guilty of it, just that they would get caught and have losers like merrill hoge and steve young say shit about it.

and this is why nobody likes patriots fans. seriously, read the above post. is the entire state of MA this stupid?
Interesting interviews on Mike and Mike this morning (sunday):
Arlen Spector coming across as a disgruntled Eagles fan. Golic made the point that lots of teams steal signals. Spector replied by saying lots of people steal cars too.
Goddell later said that with regard to the Pats' taping, they were caught, he punished them, that's that. He doesn't see any new data that would require re-opening the can of worms.
Tomase's story has legs, though; it keeps being mentioned as "the story broken by the Herald." I fail to see the break, particularly in light of the NYT piece from '02 saying that the Pats were being surveilled during their walkthrough.
Play the freaking game already.
So lets pretend for a second that the Pats did tape the walkthrough...
What would be more useful to a coaching staff, a teams no pads walkthrough one day before the SB where you don't have a single practice left before you play them (there by zero time to implement any new plays if you felt you needed to).
Or tape of 16gms during the regular season including one where you were the opponent...
C'mon people (speaking to the mediots and out of town jealous bitches) Use your fucking tiny brain, they had more than enough tape LEGALLY from the NFL that a walkthrough wasn't going to do shit.
what do you think the patriots do during their walk through?? i would think that they go over plays that they plan on using during the game. teams don't use the same plays every game. they generally narrow down the plays based on the opponent. so yes, a team would have a big advantage if they taped a walkthrough.
i would love to see the reaction here if someone did that to the patriots.
to really piss Tomase off, start referring to him as Jack Osbourne. Believe me, I've said this to his fraud face before and he gets absolutely furious! Let's really piss of curly haired Jack !
What credit, if any, do you give the Pats thatguy?
Do you think execution has anything to do with football? Look, you aren't going to be convinced so go find a Giants blog.
that fat bastard looks like he's never even played a pick up game of any sport in his life. He just wants to piss off all the sports fans to get back at the people that picked on him gorwing up
Am I the only guy who thinks this assclown looks like Pat from SNL?
Media Whore. May he be gut stabbed at his daughters wedding.
Arlen Specters Washington office mailbox is full, but his local office mailboxes still have some room for your thoughts:
http://specter.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Contact.OfficeLocations
Tomase looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters.
If Tomase has a source, it's his JOB to run the story. He just can't wait until the Super Bowl ends because it may "distract" the team. That's not his responsibility. If the editors he works for found out he sat on the story he is fucked. And that's not just at the Herald, it's ANY newspaper

Breaking News: Andre Tippett in the Hall of Fame

As the Patriots creep ever closer to immortality, it seems like every human colostomy bag in America is lining up to diminish what they're about to accomplish. Arlen Specter, Mercury Morris, Gregg Easterbrook and a million others are tearing at each other for a place in the spotlight so they can be the loudest one to tell us the Patriots record doesn't mean anything and Oh, by the way...Pay attention to me everybody...
With all that being thrown at the Patriots, it's the perfect time for some good news, and it's come in the form of LB Andre Tippett getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. That makes him just the second career Patriot in Canton after John Hannah, and it's long goddamned overdue.
Tippett was a beast. One of the great pass rushing LBs in NFL history who was also unblockable against the run and could drop into pass coverage with the best of them. There are only two reasons he had to wait so long for induction:
- In spite of his efforts, the Patriots sucked for most of his career.
- Lawrence Taylor
Tippett suffered from comparisons to Taylor as they played the same role on two very different teams. Was Taylor better? Sure. But not by so much that one was a first ballot guy and the other had to sweat it out for 14 years. As the Globe pointed out, Tippett had 100 career sacks, Taylor had 132.5, a difference of 1.4 per season. He also had two fewer cocaine suspensions than Taylor and never got the publicity that comes from instant-classic quotes like "She set me up like a motherfucker..." Mike Vrabel, who's been wearing a Tippett
throwback jersey in practice said it as well as anybody: "We get the media guide and I look at those numbers and I'm like, I had a pretty good season [12 1/2 sackes], I'm still six sacks away, or whatever, from Tippett. So, it's like he really was a great player. He gave the fans of New England something to look forward to when they had a bad team."
My favorite Tippett story came off the field. In his playing days he lived in a condo not far from where I lived in Weymouth. There was an old bucket of blood nightclub in town called The Great Escape (aka The Great Mistake) where Tippett was hanging out one night with a buddy. According to the news reports Tip, a black belt, kicked the crap out of some guy. Anyone who knew anything about Tippett,... and The Great Mistake ... knew what had happened. Some douchebag, full of more liquid courage than brains, tried to make a name for himself by picking a fight with toughest guy on the Pats. And he found out the hard way what every quarterback, tight end and offensive lineman in the NFL already knew: you didn't F with Andre Tippett. He was already a legend, that night he was a hero. Now he's an Immortal. Congratulations. It's about time.
NY Times Reports That Rams Spied On Pats Before Superbowl When It Happened!
By JUDY BATTISTA
Published: February 2, 2002
NY TIMES FEB 2 2002 - The Patriots practiced for 1 hour 54 minutes in cool temperatures at Tulane University, and every player was pronounced fit and ready to play. Quarterback Tom Brady moved well throughout practice and said his sprained left ankle did not bother him at all.
Hmm, think we'll be the only website in the world that reports this? I GUARANTEE if this was the Pats with the telescope there would literally be a Federal Investigation. And by literally I mean literally. Hell Arlen Specter may still investigate how the Rams spying on the Pats was actually considered cheating by the Pats. Don't ask me how he'll make that argument, but it won't be any crazier than anything else everybody is saying right now. Like we've said from the beginning. Everybody tapes and films and spies on everybody. The only difference is that we're the best and everybody is jealous of us and hates Belichick. So when we kick people's ass and stomp on their dick there is nothing for them to do but bitch and moan like sore losers.
Next Bit Of Terrorist Propoganda; Pats Taped Rams Fluff Practice Before Super Bowl

Bostonherald.com - One night before the Patriots[ team stats] face the Giants in Super Bowl XLII, new allegations have emerged about a Patriots employee taping the Rams’ final walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI. According to a source, a member of the team’s video department filmed the Rams’ final walkthrough before that 2002 game. The next day, the Patriots upset St. Louis, 20-17, on a last-second field goal by Adam Vinatieri for their first championship. A walkthrough involves practicing plays at reduced speed without contact or pads. It is common for teams to film their own walkthroughs and practices. According to a source close to the team during the 2001 season, here’s what happened. On Feb. 2, 2002, one day before the Patriots’ Super Bowl game against heavily favored St. Louis in New Orleans, the Patriots visited the Superdome for their final walkthrough. After completing the walkthrough, they had their team picture taken and the Rams then took the field. According to the source, a member of the team’s video staff stayed behind after attending the team’s walkthrough and filmed St. Louis’ walkthrough. At no point was he asked to identify himself or produce a press pass, the source said. The cameraman rode the media shuttle back to the hotel with news photographers when the Rams walkthrough was completed, the source said. It’s not known what the cameraman did with the tape from there. It’s also not known if he made the recording on his own initiative or if he was instructed to make the recording by someone with the Patriots or anyone else.
This is literally becoming surreal. We have an unnamed source saying the Pats taped the Rams fluff practice? Hmm, who could this unnamed source be? Who could it be, who could it be? Can I take a wild guess and say maybe Matt Walsh? Yeah that same scum bag who is begging to get his five minutes of fame? It seems right up his alley to make a statement like this, but not have the balls to put his name on the quote. It’s Coward 101. Shame on John Tomase for even reporting this gossip. I think he should be fired for this. More importantly who the fuck cares if the Pats taped the Rams fluff practice? Only somebody who hates the Patriots (insert Tom Jackson, Steve Young, Merrill Hodge, the entire country etc) or somebody who has never played football in their entire life (John Tomase) would ever try to insinuate that taping a fluff practice would have any impact on anything. That’s like saying taping the opponents batting practice in baseball helps you win. It’s totally and utterly ridiculous. Not to mention that everybody knew both teams were in the building during this final walk through. I mean the entire Patriot team was getting their picture taken while the Rams were on the field. So I’m pretty sure the Rams weren’t giving away any trade secrets during an open practice. Plus the Rams did virtually the same thing for every game the entire season so who needs to film a fluff practice to figure out what they’re doing? Do people see how nuts this is? The only thing I can equate it to is why other countries hate the United States of America. It’s jealously plain and simple. They hate us because they want to be us. So just like how Al Qaeda makes up lies and spreads propaganda about the US, the rest of the league and country make up lies about the Patriots. Honestly it’s the lowest form of pond scum that there is.
The rest of the country and the National Media should be embracing the Patriots. They stand for everything that is right in sports. They play at a team. They sacrifice for each other. They are smarter than everybody else. They care about winning more than individual accomplishments. And they are on the verge of putting together the greatest season in the history of sports. Is should be a cause for celebration from sea to shining sea. Some would even say if the Pats win tomorrow it should instantly become a National Holiday. That’s what Arlen Specter should be working on. It could be a day when grandfathers can tell their grandkids about the day they saw the greatest team from the greatest franchise complete the greatest season in the history of the world. Yet somehow the rest of the country doesn’t seem to appreciate this fact. Instead they spend their time spewing venom about how much we suck and cheat and blah, blah, blah. My advice would to all the rest of the country would be don’t hate but emulate. Ask us Bostonians for tips on how we dominate the world and maybe we’ll one day your city can be a 10th of as good as we are. But if you continue to just to make excuses as to why we kick your ass in everything from baseball to basketball to football you’ll continue to live in squalor just like the terrorists.
PS – Maybe my favorite part of Spygate is how ex coaches who have won Superbowls like Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells have both said they filmed other teams and that there is NOTHING to this entire fiasco. Yet the media totally ignores them whenever they say this. So basically if the Pats Superbowls are tainted then every Superbowl since the advent of videotape is also tainted.
Who Would You Rather Stab in the Heart More? Matt Walsh or Arlen Specter?

Vs.

There are certain times in my life when I honestly question the sanity of the human race. And the fact that Arlen Specter is trying to involve Congress in Spygate is one of those times. How can anybody with even a shred of intelligence rationalize this as a good use of Government funds? It's flat out mind boggling. Specter claimed that Goodell destroying the Spygate tapes is "analogous to the CIA destruction of tapes,'' Huh? Is he insane? I mean even if the Pats were stealing signs for longer than people think what the fuck does that have to do with Congress? And if it was analogous to the CIA destorying tapes like Specter said then why'd he wait 6 months before opening his fat ass mouth? Normally I don’t like to advocate killing elected officials, but Arlen Specter doesn’t deserve to live. He is literally a threat to National Security. I realize he is still upset that the Pats beat the Eagles in the Superbowl a couple years ago, but give it a rest already. Don’t worry dude, Philly will be back in a couple decades.
Now as far as this Matt Walsh guy goes, did anybody make it through that article on ESPN? He fucking makes Don King look like Straight Arrow Genaro. Matt Walsh of course is the former Pats employee who was fired in 2003 and is now trying to get revenge. So far Walsh has said he may or may not have information regarding Spygate. But he won’t say anything unless ESPN agrees to pay his legal fees if he gets sued for lying. HA! HA! HA! I wish I was making this up but I’m not. I honestly have never read an article in my life where somebody has come across as a bigger scum bag than Matt Walsh. I'm begging all Stoolies to come forward with stories exposing what an asshole this guy is. And I know he is a total asshole
Bottom line is this. The Pats are undefeated. They haven’t used cameras this season. Nobody can beat them. The rest of the world is jealous and this is their attempt to steal the spotlight. It’s no different than when Arod announced he was going to become a free agent during the World Series. Frankly it’s sad and pathetic. But in a way I kind of like it. Because it will make it that much sweeter when we’re hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the 4th time this Sunday and the rest of the country is crying.
Anyway it's time to vote. Who would you rather stab in the heart? Matt Walsh or Arlen Specter? Man this is a tough one. Arlen Specter is clearly more dangerous since he is in a position of power, but at the same time he's just a senile old man. Matt Walsh just seems like the most despicable human being on the planet. Gun to head I think I'd choose to stab him in the heart first.
Vote 1 for Matt Walsh and 10 for Arlen Specter

I've barely even heard of the guy.
