Does This Look Like The Face Of A Man Who Would Shoot His Lawnmower

lawnmower

MILWAUKEEA Milwaukee man was accused of shooting his lawn mower because it wouldn't start. Keith Walendowski, 56, was charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed. According to the criminal complaint, Walendowski said he was angry because his Lawn Boy wouldn't start Wednesday morning. He told police quote, "I can do that, it's my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want." A woman who lives at Walendowski's house reported the incident. She said he was intoxicated Walendowski could face up to an $11,000 fine and six years and three months in prison if convicted.

What are we in Communist China or something?  Listen if a dude wants to shoot his lazy ass lawn mower for not starting than more power to him.  How else you going to teach it a lesson?  I bet that punk purrs like a kitten next time he turns it on.    And what’s up with that bitch that tattled on him?Funny way to say thank you for trying to mow the lawn.

World's Greatest Athlete Spotted At Wife Carrying Contest In Finland

What I’m about to say I say without a shred of sarcasm.  The dude in the yellow with the huge ass wife has to be the strongest, most athletic human being in the universe.   I mean it takes a superhuman effort just to lift this behemoth never mind running around this obstacle course with her strapped to your back.    If I didn’t see it with my own two eyes I would have said it was impossible.   I guarantee there isn’t one Olympian competing in China who could have matched this feat.     As a side note you know the contest organizers were praying that this guy didn’t win.  There wouldn’t have been enough beer in Finland to pay the guy.

PS – All the couples who take this event seriously can calm the fuck down.

When is a Vacation Not a Vacation?

I just got back from a weeklong trip to Sebago Lake, Maine. And I use the word "trip" as opposed to "vacation" because a vacation is something you enjoy. A trip is something you endure. And for the most part last week in Maine was a struggle for survival, like Shackelton's journey only with kids along to add to raise the misery index. Out of seven days we got maybe one full day and two half days when it wasn't raining. As a general rule, I've always found it's preferable not to spend your vacation sitting in the middle of an RV park in a rented Twister Magnet (TM) brand motor home listening to tornado warnings from the National Weather Service. Just one man's opinion. Fortunately for us, the advisory was downgraded to "severe thunderstorm warnings" then to "flood watch." We shut off the TV before they started talking about plagues of locusts and the lake turning to blood.

The one day it did clear, we went down to the lake... which if I recall was the reason we came to begin with... and it was virtually empty. Perfect. We had the place practically to ourselves. But we'd no sooner sat down than a huge family with absurdly loud voices came along and set up camp three feet in front of us. I'm not exaggerating. Three feet. So instead of gazing at the lake I drove four hourse to see I found myself staring at the winner of the 2008 Maine Hairy Shoulders Cup. And her husband.

So the only solution was to sit inside and drink. Fortunately we had friends staying nearby who took the same approach. And as much fun as sitting around boozing it up is, one more day of that and my next reservation would've been at Betty Ford.

Anyway, the point of this rant... if I have a point... is: Am I owed something? This is probably my one and only trip this year and were it not for the resiliency of my liver, I wouldn't have enjoyed more than a few hours of it. And it happens to me every year. I can't sue God or the National Weather Service, but don't I deserve satisfaction? Personally I think since I paid the resort for seven days of fun in the sun, they owe it to me to let me stay there until I get all seven days. If it takes a month or until my liver gives out, whichever comes first. The damned shame of it is, weather aside I love Maine: "Where the homes have wheels and the cars are up on blocks." I just feel like I've been completely ripped off and somebody owes me big time.

Don't Ask This Dude If He Has Any Grey Poupon

popon

Smoking Gun--Meet Vitaly Kovtun. According to Utah cops, Kovtun was behind the wheel last month when a car pulled up to his SUV at an intersection. After gesturing to the 22-year-old Kovtun to roll down his window, passenger Stephen Cox asked, "Excuse me, sir, do you have any Grey Poupon?" Kovtun responded, police charge, by pulling a handgun from his glove compartment, cocking the weapon, and leveling it at the prankster's auto. "Here's your Grey Poupon, roll your f***ing windows up," Kovtun said, according to a probable cause affidavit. Kovtun was charged yesterday for the June 18 incident, having been tracked down by cops after another occupant of the second car wrote down his license plate number. When questioned by police, Kovtun admitted that he, "pulled out his handgun and racked the slide back towards the victims in a threatening manner," according to the July 22 District Court affidavit. Charged with felony aggravated assault, Kovtun was booked yesterday into the Salt Lake County jail, where the below mug shot was snapped.

Are you shitting me?  People are still doing that Grey Poupon bit?   No wonder Vitaly pulled a piece on them.   Listen I'd be pissed too if somebody broke that weak ass shit out on me.  I mean if you’re going to waste my time by having me roll down my window so you can crack a joke, at least have the fucking common decency to update your material.  Otherwise you’re basically begging for a gun to the face.   If anybody should get arrested it should be these Gary Gulman wannabes.

Utah Supreme Court tosses out conviction of 'wedgie' killer

Saltlaketribune.com - The Utah Supreme Court today threw out the manslaughter conviction of Erik Kurtis Low, who killed a Park City man after the victim gave him a "wedgie."  Low, now 40, claimed in his 2005 trial he was defending himself when he shot 38-year-old Michael Jon Hirschey following a night of drinking, drug use and horseplay. Court records say Hirschey teased, manhandled and threatened Low while they and two other men were ingesting cocaine at his apartment. Finally, in the early morning hours of May 8, 2003, Hirschey grabbed Low's underwear and yanked upward hard enough to pull him off his feet.  About 15 seconds later, Low shot Hirschey in the shoulder and the head, according to court records.

I watch enough Law & Order to know it was just a matter of time till this decision got overturned. Rumor on the street is that the reason the Supreme Court reversed this ruling is because in the orginal trial the judge refused to allow “The Inferno Video” as evidence for the defense.  Obviously that was illegal.    Because there is no way a jury would convict a man of murder after watching what an atomic wedgie can do to somebody’s psyche.   One second it’s all fun and games and the next second the victim can snap and shoot somebody.   I mean if it can happen to somebody as calm and collected as Brad, it can happen to anybody.

PS – This maybe my favorite video I’ve ever posted on the Stool.

“Now it’s a necklace”

“It’s taking me time to realize that wow this bloated son of a bitch just ripped my underwear out of my pants and then I realize how angry I am about it.”

“Congratulations you’re a meathead son, but you know what, don’t you ever fucking put your hands on my underwear”

Man With No Arms And Legs Beats 35 People in Pittsburgh Triathlon

j

PITTSBURGH (CBS)In last Sunday's Pittsburgh Triathlon, there were a lot of individual competitors and teams with competitors for each event.  One team, however, stood out.   That team contained three friends: Jim on the Bike, Ned doing the running, and Craig Dietz doing the swimming. However, Dietz was born with no arms or legs. In the end, he finished 275th out of 308 participants.  "To think that I was ahead of 35 people just blew my mind," said Dietz. "I would have been happy with 307th, beating one. Not being the last person out of the water would have been a good day for me."

Congrats to Craig Dietz.  What an inspiration, blah, blah, blah.      But seriously he beat 35 people?     Listen, I don’t want to take anything away from the guy but how the fuck is that possible?  Let me just say this.    I haven’t worked out in 3 years.   I get tired walking my dog to take a shit.   My back hurts when I do the dishes.  (literally) But I promise you if I see some dude bobbing in the Alleghany River next to me with no arms and no legs there is NO fucking way that I let him beat me out of the water.    It’s just about personal pride really.   I mean how can you go through life being the guy who lost to the guy with no limbs?

New Revolutionary Offense? Introducing the A-11

Rivals.com - When quarterback Jeremy George entered the Piedmont (Calif.) High School football coaches' office to talk to Kurt Bryan, he noticed an unusual formation on the dry-erase board.  Kurt Bryan, Piedmont's coach, and Steve Humphries, the director of football operations, had developed an offense in which all 11 players on the field potentially are eligible to catch the ball. Though they weren't certain it was legal when they first concocted the idea, they were willing to implement it for the 2007 season.  After compiling a 7-4 record and a first-round playoff appearance, Bryan and Humphries now call their innovation a success.  What developed from that brainstorming session was the "A-11 offense" as in all 11 players potentially are eligible.  The base offense is one in which a center and two tight ends surround the football, three receivers are split right, three more split left and two quarterbacks stand behind in a shotgun, one of whom has to be at least 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage.  Yes, per the rules of the game, only five players are eligible to catch a pass during a particular play and seven players have to set up on the line of scrimmage. But in the minds of Bryan and Humphries, you can develop an infinite number of plays with an infinite number of formations.  "It presents a different set of challenges for defenses because they have to account for which guys go out or might go out," Bryan said. "Those guys who are ineligible to go down the field and catch a pass, they can take a reverse pitch or a negative screen or a hitch behind the line of scrimmage.  "We've opened up the game to the extreme with the rules already in place."

I don’t get it.   Is the point of the A11 offense that every time the offense breaks the huddle the defense has no idea which 7 guys are eligible receivers so they have to cover everybody?  Is that it?   I mean that would be impossible to stop wouldn’t it be?    Or is that the whole point?    I’m confused.    I could care less about the 2 QB thing because that seems like it would be more trouble than it’s worth but this 11 eligible receiver thing has me perplexed.    And if that is true that anybody can be an eligible receiver on any given play, it would seem to necessitate an immediate rule change.  Like I said before; I’m confused.   And that is saying a lot coming from the most innovative mind in the history of PowderPuff football.

Manny Being Manny Part 48

m

Bostonherald.com - The Manny Ramirez [ stats] saga took another turn today when the Red Sox [ team stats] slugger said he will not object if the team feels it needs to trade him. “If the Red Sox think they can find a trade that is going to make the team better, and both sides are going to be happy, I’m going to agree,” Ramirez said after stepping outside of the clubhouse just before it was closed to the media. “But if they can’t find a trade ... It’s something simple, it’s no big deal. At the end of the season all they have to do is call my agent and say, ‘Hey, we’re not going to pick up Manny’s option for ’09, he’s going to become a free agent.’ That’s it. I’ll go my way and you guys go your way. It’s something simple. “I don’t want to talk to them about contract right now, so what?” Ramirez added. “Enough is enough. I’m tired of them, they’re tired of me. After 2008, just send me a letter. You don’t even have to call my agent or whatever. ‘Thank you for everything, you’re going to become a free agent in ’09.’ ” “They’re not stupid. Boston is not stupid. They’re not going to do it, they can say whatever they want. But when it comes to making a deal they’re not going to pull the trigger because they know what they’ve got here. “I’m happy, but enough is enough.” Speaking to ESPNdeportes.com earlier yesterday, Ramirez said he does not care where he is traded.“I don’t have any preferences,” Ramirez told the Web site. “I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason. I don’t care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be. My job is to play baseball. “I don’t want to be a problem and a distraction to the Red Sox in such a critical moment of the season. I want to help the team, even if that means I have to go.” As for his knee injury, Ramirez said he thinks he has tendinitis and denied he could be faking injuries.“I’m a ballplayer with more than 500 home runs and almost 2,000 RBIs. I’m a professional. I don’t know how anybody can say I could be making it all up,” he said. Ramirez said he is convinced that all the fuss surrounding his injury and his contractual situation is part of a Red Sox campaign to portray him as the bad guy.

I honestly can’t believe I’m writing about this shit again, but at the same time I’d be shocked if I wasn’t.   I don’t even know what to compare it to.  I guess it’s like a mouse that gets shocked when he tries to grab a piece of cheese and just keeps doing it over and over and over again.    EVERY fucking year it’s the same thing.   EVERY FUCKING YEAR!    And every time we get one of these Manny incidents the media goes crazy and everybody bitches and moans about how the Sox need to get rid of him.   And every year it blows over, Manny goes berserk and everybody acts like it never happened.  And then we start the whole song and dance all over again.   So what’s different about this time than any other time besides nothing?  Why is it the lead story on Boston.com, Bostonherald.com, ESPN, WEEI and every other media outlet?  I don’t get it.    It’s the same exact thing that happens every year.  No better, no worse.

Listen is Manny a jerk?  Yes.  Is he a baby?  Definitely.  Does he play the game the right way?  Absolutely not.  Will I care if he drops dead once he leaves Boston?  Not really.  But all I care about is winning.  And anybody who says Manny doesn’t help us win is a flat out moron.  Without him in the lineup we wouldn’t have two World Series titles and we wouldn’t be a favorite to win another one this year.  So unless Theo can find a guy to replace Manny’s production which is virtually impossible let’s do what we always do with Manny.   Just chalk it up to Manny being Manny and move on.   It’s that fucking simple.   Unless of course you'd rather lose with 9 Trot Nixon type guys than win with 9 Manny type guys.

— elpresidente, 10:41 am | permalink | 64 comments

Thank you. I don't know what is more annoying, hearing people on ESPN babble on about Brett Favre, or hearing morons talk about how we should get rid of Manny. You don't drop one of the top 5 best players over the last 10 years just like that, it makes no sense. Now Chewbacca was a wookie...

soxrulebaby04, Jul 28 2008, 9:30 am

Who gives a shit if he begs out of the lineup a couple times a year. This guy is an absolute beast at the plate and he is in the middle of one of his signature monster tears - we've played 106 games and he's played in 97. Pedroia is the only player who has appeared in more games than Manny on this team. Granted, Manny makes $20MM, but give the fucking guy a break.

Big Windy, Jul 28 2008, 9:31 am

well put pres

NakedLunch, Jul 28 2008, 9:38 am

// Now Chewbacca was a wookie... //

Amen. Speaking of, when is Elton John going to play Fenway Park? My jazz hands would be working overtime!

lil jon maldives, Jul 28 2008, 9:42 am

couldn't agree more pres. The guy says that he wouldn't veto a trade outta here, SO FUCKING WHAT?! He can still absolutely rake and you know that if he stays the rest of the year he is going to be a key piece to another world series run. I know that guys like Shank will probably call for him to be bannished from baseball every day for the rest of the year, but in September and October Manny will still be hitting cleanup and carrying this offense.

thugnasty, Jul 28 2008, 9:43 am

Fancona said it best during the pre game when he said "I would rather have a guy that is hitting at .500 and not want to be here then a guy giving out flowers to everyone and hitting .145"

ode2no1, Jul 28 2008, 9:53 am

Matt Holliday for Manny and prospects....

Swoop, Jul 28 2008, 9:57 am

I don't care what he does off the field. But I do care when he lays down and refuses to play. I think this episode is going to be different. I think he's going to dog it for the rest of the year, and that hurts the team. They should move him if they can.

BA BARRACUS, Jul 28 2008, 10:07 am

Matt Holliday for Manny and prospects....

— Swoop, Jul 28 2008, 9:57 am

No no no and no.

I Drink Beer, Jul 28 2008, 10:07 am

was he dogging it last night when he went 3 for 5 with two doubles BA? He is a space cadet, but he's not stupid - he understands the stretch run will impact him financially. He will continue to rake for the rest of the season and get himself a nice 3 or 4 year deal from a team like the Mets or the Angels.

Big Windy, Jul 28 2008, 10:08 am

Matt Holliday for Manny and prospects....

— Swoop, Jul 28 2008, 9:57 am

Definitely not. career numbers.

Matt Holliday, .365 avg 81 hr 294 rbi 1.093 OPS at coors
Matt Holliday, .278 avg 39 hr 161 rbi .790 OPS on road

you rally want a .790 OPS/20 HR guy as your cleanup hitter?

boston22, Jul 28 2008, 10:13 am

he's not going to "dog it", not when he needs a new contract. yeah, he's sat out with injuries that were questionable, but he can't do that now when he wants a 4 year contract.

he certainly wasn't dogging it last night.

anf, Jul 28 2008, 10:14 am

I understand what you are saying El-Pres, but you really are missing the big picture. What if you had nine players on the field just like Manny? Lots of home runs, crazy plays and winning a decent amount of games by players who couldn't care less whether they won or lost; only thinking about the next contract. If the players don't care about winning why should the fans?

dad, Jul 28 2008, 10:16 am

Anybody else see the article in Sunday's Herald - does not sound like Beckett doesn't care about this - it sounded like he was pretty pissed that Manny wasn't in the lineup and he lost the game 1-0. Here is the quote

“It’s pretty simple to me: just mind my own (expletive) business,” ace Josh Beckett [stats] said. “It’s a different situation certainly coming from most other teams, but there’s nothing you can do about it. You hope that management and the other guys do the right thing.

“I’m sure it’s difficult on some guys, but I’m pretty good at minding my own business.”

LarryJoeBird, Jul 28 2008, 10:18 am

Page Rank of 6...niceeeeeeeeeee

BornAndRaised, Jul 28 2008, 10:19 am

Dad,

Knowing you as I do I also know you're jealous of every player who makes lots of money. You thought Pedro wasn't earning his money whenever he gave up 1 run. And I know for a fact you'd rather lose with guys who make no money and don't complain than win with spoiled rich guys. That's okay but that's how you feel. If you had 11 guys who were as good at their postition overall as Manny you'd win the World Series every year because you'd have 9 Hall of famers on the field

elpresidente, Jul 28 2008, 10:20 am

If Manny "dogs" it and hurts our chances I want Holliday and as of right now that is what he is doing....although it was nice to see him spray the field with hits last night. He will get big money no matter what he does the rest of this season.

Swoop, Jul 28 2008, 10:20 am

Manny and Lugo to Colorado for Holiday Fuentes and Prospect.

ALL WHITE DEFENSIVE TEAM in 08' the first since the 20's

xanderCrews, Jul 28 2008, 10:29 am

Cmon guys this is corporate politics at its finest. The trinity of Henry, Lucchino, and Werner are no altar boys and this is a campaign to lessen Mannys options. They float the doggin it, mri, shoving the secretary stories to show the fans that Manny is a troublesome sort and other teams that he is a bother to the clubhouse... At the end of the season they say Manny we arent picking up your option at 20mm but well do 15-16mm, what say you? Either he accepts and they save 10mm or he leaves town. If he leaves they can say well he was a pain in the ass so good riddance and still have the fans backing. All comes back to the campaign. Why is it all over the media? Because phone calls to well placed friends make it so. Manny is right on with his spiel about them trying to make him look like a bad guy. You'd think that if he were such a cancer one of his teammates over the years would have some bad stuff to say about him. He's played what 10-12 years and no one says he's a bad guy, not one. Something is amiss...

macfunden, Jul 28 2008, 10:30 am

Swoop,

You really need to get off of Holliday's junk. Boston 22 just posted Holliday's home/road splits. At Coors, Holliday is ill. He's Albert Pujols. On the road....he's Trot Nixon. That's no shit. Plus, he's going to cost out the ass, and Colorado's trying to cut payroll as well. Holliday is still under contract in COL for another year, and would likely not pick up the option (because they can't) on Manny. Maybe this trade works in MLB 2K8, but in real life....sorry....no dice.

LowellBullseye, Jul 28 2008, 10:32 am

losing prospects and trust me they will be good prospects just isnt worth it for Holliday. He just isnt worth it. 20 million is worth it everytime for a hitter like Manny. Pick him up 1 year at a time for the next 2 years and if he keeps up the shit talking(ooo words hurt!) he will drive his value down in 2 years you can get a 3 year deal at 15 million a year. But then again he might say trade me.. ohss nosss

ode2no1, Jul 28 2008, 10:32 am

manny ramirez is in no way hurting our chances. like pres said, I'll take manny being manny over a guy like trot being trot any day of the week. I admire the "dirt dog" kind of ballplayer but I'd rather have guys who are just awesome at playing baseball.

NakedLunch, Jul 28 2008, 10:33 am

Pres:

At what point, then, does Manny's behavior justify getting rid of him? If all you care about is winning (and it is possible, by the way, that Manny's behavior will have a negative impact on the play of his teammates), is there anything that Manny can do to get your "get out" vote, as long as he's hitting home runs? After all, the guy is a scumbag, so, by association, the organization and all Sox fans must share that taint of scumbaggedness. Same thing with Bonds and San Francisco. Same thing with Sheffield and the Yankees. What if Manny was caught (1) using HGH, (2) giving anal to the First Lady, and/or (3) playing quiddich at Middlebury? Where do you draw the line, declare character to be more important than wins, and say enough is enough?

Eagle 1, Jul 28 2008, 10:34 am

xandercrews:
Lowell is Hispanic, sorry

macfunden, Jul 28 2008, 10:34 am

if they are going to trade him, they should exercise the option and trade him after the season. i wish they would exercise both, get two more good years out of him for $40MM and then let him walk.

bgfm03, Jul 28 2008, 10:35 am

macfunden is making some good sense there

......(yawn).........

Murray Chadwick, Jul 28 2008, 10:41 am

I think Manny wanting a 4 year $100/mil contract is kinda crazy. I did enjoy him blowing right through the stop signal at 3rd base last night though and scoring.

UserError, Jul 28 2008, 10:42 am

How is Manny a scumbag? Out there? No doubt, but he's far from a scumbag.

vice versa, Jul 28 2008, 10:45 am

Manny's trying to take the 4 days off he usually does by blowing off the All-Star game.

He's 36 years old and has sore legs. Take as much time in July as you need, so in September/October you can continue to rake.

I love Manny being called a scumbag. Because he takes days off.

Unreal.

PatriotsNation, Jul 28 2008, 10:45 am

some of it lies with ownership. I think they don't want Manny next year and the sure way to win over hearts is to get Manny bent and then he alienates himself from the fans and then ownership doesn't get such a black eye when he isn't in the outfield next year.

Same as the Packers are doing to Favre

Not a bad move, when you have made a decision to move on and you have a quirky all star you don't want anymore.

johnb1222, Jul 28 2008, 10:47 am

I have no doubt Lowell would have gone 5-5 last night if it weren't for Manny and his "negative impact on this teammates". At one point he was directly in Lowell's sightline (on 2nd base) during his at bat. selfish fuck.

milloy, Jul 28 2008, 10:48 am

Like I said the other day, they should exercise the option for '09 because fuck him. He wants out because Duquette signed him through his prime years. Makes no sense to let him go for nothing when you could trade a one-year contract at the winter meetings.

Spuckey, Jul 28 2008, 10:54 am

The only reason to trade manny is to get something for him instead of letting him walk. If they do, they'd probably be fucked for this year but could set themselves up for later years. If they win the world series everyone will say it was a great idea to keep him, but if they lose, everyone will say we shouyld've traded him.

Cutts, Jul 28 2008, 10:59 am

Like people have been saying, this is Red Sox Management 101 at its finest, bludgeon the players image so bad before you kick his ass out the door...A lot of times it has worked out...but don't be fooled here by Boston's main stream sports media...Manny is hardly anymore of a problem then he's ever been...Glad to see the Stool and most of the Stoolies stand in favor of keeping Manny...whether he cares about winning or not (which I think he does) what does it matter if in actuallity we are in fact winning and poised to win another championship?

RQD, Jul 28 2008, 11:15 am

PN and vice:

You geniuses are kidding, right? Did you miss Manny tossing a 60+ y/o guy to the ground three weeks ago, punching ugly Youk in the face, tossing management under the bus, and, for years, acting like he's bigger than the game with a combination of dogging it, acting like a jackass in the Green Monster, and taking days off at particulaly important times? Also, after he's gone, you'll likely read reports about his various illegitimate kids running around and all the other stuff that the Sox brass has been covering up for him for years, including certain rumors about Manny, feces, and the carpets and bedspreads of 4 and 5-star hotel rooms around the country.

A lot of the bad press Manny's been getting lately reminds me A LOT of the smear campaign against Nomar back in '04 -- make him look like a bad guy, turn the fans against him, no back-lash when he gets traded. Differences being the Nomar trade worked out great in the end, and Manny is a proven postseason big spot winner.

And there already is a team of 9 Mannys -- it's called The Mets.

MadeGuy, Jul 28 2008, 11:22 am

"Smear campaign?" Oh, for fuck's sake, open your eyes. The Manny apologists invent a new excuse. By definition, smear campaigns involve half-truths, distortions, or outright lies. What recent story about Manny has been false?

Eagle 1, Jul 28 2008, 11:31 am

The Manny bashers need to jump off the Tobin and take Shank and Buckley with them.

He has missed 9 games this season, it means at the end of the day he will play about 144 games this season. I am sick of hearing the Matt Holliday rumors, Colorado is NOT trading him and Manny is 10X the hitter.

We should just pick up both his options and in fact just pay him 20 million a year until he decides he wants to stop playing. The guy is a stud and the Red Sox have proven they can win with him.

ClarenceWhorley, Jul 28 2008, 11:34 am

Holliday- YES!

those home/road splits are SOOOOOO overblown. How many of those road games had a 37 foot high wall 310 (pfft) feet away?? Not many- 3 to be exact. In those 3 games he hit pretty well, small sample yes. 2 stadiums he plays in a lot (LA and SD) are the 27th and 30th ranked parks for hitters. And San Fran is middle of the pack overall but no picnic for a right handed power hitter.

Boston_George, Jul 28 2008, 11:34 am

o ya- that being said I think they should sign Manny for 1 option year and go after Holliday when hes a FA in 2010, not 2009 and save the prospects. Just hope he doesnt get extended where/if he gets traded.

Boston_George, Jul 28 2008, 11:37 am

Very simple, keep Manny. $20 million is a good deal for a Hall of Fame hitter, even if he is on the decline. He is not a clubhouse cancer (ie A-Rod, Milton Bradley, Carl Everet) just a space cadet.

Keep the prospects, in the past few years we've traded Freddy Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez, Annibal Sanchez, David Murphy, Kason Gabbard, Justin Duscherer. Not all of them have been great, some have. I'd rather keep the Pedroia, Youkilis, Lester, Papelbon, Ellsbury type players we have. Why trade him when you can just let him walk at the end of the year?

All the Manny haters should meet up with Gerry Callahan at a local rest stop and have a huge latent homosexual orgy.

ALL WHITE DEFENSIVE TEAM in 08' the first since the 20's

— xanderCrews, Jul 28 2008, 10:29 am

Lowell is Puerto Rican, Ellsbury is Navaho, Crisp and Delcarmen are black, Ortiz, Lugo and Ramirez are Dominican. Yes clearly the Sox are a white power regime ....

Masshole, Jul 28 2008, 11:43 am

Anyone see Peter Gammons' interview with Dan Roche before the game last night? (A brief transcript was posted on Dirt Dogs this morning.) Of the 9 games Manny has missed this year, two were against Joba, two were against Felix Hernandez, one was against Voquez from the Reds, and one was against Verlander. Way to pack it in against the good pitchers during a quasi free agent year, Manny. The guy is no doubt an unbelievable hitter, but he is a fucking clown and finally his teammates are getting sick and tired of his shit. I say fuck him after this year.

Blota, Jul 28 2008, 11:44 am

Big Windy:

Manny was great last night.

In no way does that mean I am wrong.

BA BARRACUS, Jul 28 2008, 11:45 am

As a Yankee fan I want Manny traded to the NL as soon as possible. Without Manny in the Red Sox lineup Ortiz and Pedroia will go back to reality. Ortiz was nothing before he started hitting in front of Manny. I am hoping the Yankees sign Bonds if nothing more than to take the press off of AROD. Manny is best right hander off all time in my opinion. How could would he be if he had Jeter's work ethic.

georgesteele, Jul 28 2008, 11:46 am

How good would Manny be if he had Jeter's work ethic?

georgesteele, Jul 28 2008, 11:51 am

manny works incredibly hard at hitting. he doesn't run out ground balls, doesn't hustle much in the outfield, but he is notorious for the amount of off field work he does with the bat.

I'll just never buy how a guys personality hurts a team that badly. don't give me the "distraction" bullshit. there are people in my office I can't fucking stand but I still come to work every day and do my job.

NakedLunch, Jul 28 2008, 12:05 pm

Manny is getting paid how much for this season?! Why doesn't he shut the fuck up and play like anyone w/o a guarantee for next year? If he hits like he's capable of, cuts out the bullshit ("Oh my elbow! I think it's broken!"... thanks Rodney) he'll make a boatload next year. I agree that management won't be easily able to replace his numbers. It's easy for us to say "keep him! The numbers are too good!" But jesus, if any of you guys worked with someone making five times your salary, acted like a complete f'ing dope, and didn't care if his calling out sick last second had a big impact on your job when there's nothing wrong with him... you'd want him shitcanned the next day.

Let him play it out and cut the ties. Plan on having that $20 million next year. How many teammates of his bust their ass and would just like Manny to act like a fucking adult. It's not asking much.

MikeLowell4Prez, Jul 28 2008, 12:12 pm

You only trade Manny if a 3-way can be worked out for prospects that are then shipped for someone like Tex or Holliday. I know he's not great outside of Coors, but most players hit better at home no matter where they play and I think Fenway is a good match for him. He's also a clear upgrade defensively and would likely be here to stay. Word is that Boston is where he wants to end up. Then again, if Tex comes we get the 2 draft picks if a deal can't be worked out.

Ed Hillel, Jul 28 2008, 12:21 pm

"How good would Manny be if he had Jeter's work ethic?"

That's a dumb question. Manny is widely considered one of the hardest working players in the game. He loses a few bases a year because he trots out of the box, but that's nothing compared to what he gains by fine-tuning his hitting day in and day out.

Ed Hillel, Jul 28 2008, 12:22 pm

Anybody listening to Dale & Holley talking about Ken Rosenthal's report right now?

Manny must go.

BA BARRACUS, Jul 28 2008, 12:46 pm

When will people figure out the reason Manny is so fucking good is because he doesn't give a shit!?!?

You're not going to change him. His teammates love the fucking guy. Leave him alone and see if you can re-sign him.

As for the sox management - fuck them. I'm so sick of paying what I pay for tickets...or a CHANCE to BUY tickets....assholes.

johnny_offensive, Jul 28 2008, 1:05 pm

Anyone catch Buckley's article in the herald today about Manny? Geez, Buck, try to make it a LITTLE less obvious that you want Manny gone.

Gameover58, Jul 28 2008, 1:28 pm

Barracus,

If we wanted to hear you parroting CHB, Buckley and Masseroti we would have read their drivel in the first place

milloy, Jul 28 2008, 1:34 pm

Unlike you, I have no idea what their position is on the issue, nor do I care.

BA BARRACUS, Jul 28 2008, 1:37 pm

He pulls this shit every year. Then it's back to the bussiness. Why does he pull this shit? If he looks at it. It will never get better than he has it now. For Manny these ARE the good old days. Getting paid $20 mil/per in a town that loves you, winning multiple WS titles, and going to the Hall of Fame is not a bad life. If the boat is being Rocked it's Manny that doing the Rocking.

ledzepp40, Jul 28 2008, 3:01 pm

in that case you should read them Barracus, they're right up your alley.

You gotta stop being an apologist, dude. Whether he likes it or not - in fact he even said it in his interview with ESPN Deportes - Manny is a professional and it's about fucking time he starts acting like it.

Blota, Jul 28 2008, 3:37 pm

Well milloy, it's safe to say that if they agree with me, then they're right.

BA BARRACUS, Jul 28 2008, 3:45 pm

Sure, if you want to ensure there is no tension in the clubhouse Parcheesi game at the expense of...you know....winning ball games, then I suppose you're right. Don't you worry he'll be gone at the end of the year anyway, then the clubhouse can go back to doing trust falls between innings. Replacing the 900+ OPS, that's a tad more difficult.

milloy, Jul 28 2008, 5:10 pm

Manny definitely got to go. You can't keep a guy who immaturely bails on his team at a crucial time to of the year, leaving only unprepared rookies and lower level replacements to cover for him, all in a selfish money-driven power move directed against management. Hell, you either get rid of the guy, or you just dress him in a gorilla suit and call him your GM.

BagODonuts, Jul 28 2008, 8:58 pm

Well said Pres !!!

That being said, he's gone next year.

He's still a good/great hitter when he tries, but he's such a slacker it pisses off the "old school" baseball people.
