Real Friends Don't Let Other Friends Wear Black Cleats With White Socks

NCAA LACROSSE: MAY 02 Big Ten Men's Lacrosse Semi Finals - Penn State v Rutgers

This is a blog that I’ve been meaning to write for a while but I just never got around to it. However, now that we’re getting closer to summer and a lot of you out there will probably be dusting off the cleats for the first time in a year to play a little men’s league summer ball, it makes sense to spread the word. And that word, of course, is that real friends don’t let other friends rock black cleats with white socks.

And that goes across the board, too. It’s not just lacrosse. It goes for everything. Football, basketball, soccer, you name it. Black cleats and white socks is a god awful look now, it was a god awful look 20 years ago, and it’ll be a god awful look 20 years from now. If you’re going to wear black cleats, then you’ve either gotta go black socks or you have to just go with ankle socks. Now if that black and white Oreo look is what you’re going for, well then you can simply just reverse it. Personally I still don’t believe that white cleats with black socks is a great look, but it’s infinitely better than black cleats/white socks. I don’t really know how to explain it but every time I see someone going black cleats with white socks, it just looks like they are coming straight from some business meeting and forgot to pack a change of shoes.

But I don’t blame the people who are out there rocking this hideously atrocious combo. I realize that there are some people out there in the world who simply just don’t give a shit about how they look. Where the blame really falls on is the friends around these maniacs. If I see someone going black cleats and white socks, I know that they just haven’t surrounded themselves with enough good people in their life. They may have “friends”, but those are the kind of friends who text you using full sentence structures and punctuation. You need best friends who are going to shit on you for wearing that combo and are either going to tell you to buy new cleats, or they’re just going to throw them out themselves. So if somebody you know in your life is currently going with this combination, you need to ask yourself the question right now–do you truly care about that person and their well being? Would you consider that person to be one of your best friends, or simply just an acquaintance? Because if that person is anything more to you than just some jackass who you see every Wednesday night when you’re playing some beer league sports, it is your duty to tell that person that they look horrible and to change it immediately. People helping people. That’s what the world is all about.
