Steve Forbes Announced His Arrival as Wake Forest's New Basketball Coach by Slamming His Coronavirus Mask on the Floor of the Practice Gym

Now that's how you make an entrance.

Wake Forest hired former East Tennessee State head coach Steve Forbes to be its new basketball coach on Thursday, getting who I would consider to be the best coach on the market — ETSU was one of six programs in the country to win at least 24 games each of the past five seasons — which is pretty shocking when you consider that Wake Forest AD John Currie is the same guy who tried to hire Greg Schiano as Tennessee's football coach. I suppose it helps when you're the only Power Five school which has fired its men's basketball coach since the coronavirus pandemic started.

Regardless, Wake got a great coach who could do some damage in the ACC. And boy, did he make an entrance in his introductory video. Nothing will get a fanbase more fired up right now than taking a coronavirus face mask and spiking it onto the floor of the practice gym. That's a guy who's ready to get on the recruiting trail and start winning some ballgames. I love it.

Forbes has been my top choice to replace Rick Barnes at Tennessee whenever he decides to retire, so hopefully Forbes does a good job in Winston-Salem for a few years and then comes back home — he was an assistant under Bruce Pearl when the Vols were No. 1 in the country in 2008.

Good for Wake Forest. They got a winner.
