My New Strange Addiction: ASMR Color Blending

I never thought I'd get addicted to ASMR paint mixing videos, but here I am, ready for my 15 minutes on TLC. Everybody scrolls social media platforms for a wide variety of reasons - sports news, cute animals, cooking recipes, ginormous pendulous swinging tits - there's a corner of the internet for everyone, the list could go on forever. For awhile I was super into accounts that showed old 90's commercials for kids that aired on stations like Nickelodeon.

Absolutely hated the Hostess commercial of the shark mistaking the fat old lady floating in an inntertube for a cupcake and taking a bite out of her in an attempt to get to that delicious cream filling. This commercial airing a billion times during Rugrats was what a Nationwide jingle commercial with Peyton Manning/ Brad Paisley on football Sunday is to me today - The Gulag would view how many times these commercials aired as too cruel a punishment for a human to endure.

NOW, I love watching and being reminded of old the commercials. Anything for that tiny hit of dopamine from sweet, sweet nostalgia.

side note loved the Capri Sun commercial below. Even though it seemed like there was never enough liquid in a Capri Sun to satisfy your thirst, the kids turning into a metalic ooze and flying through the sky made me want to suck down a whole pack and fill the pouches back up with air when I'm done.

Lately, nostalgia ain't been hittin' the way it used to, I've found a new vice to satiate my brain. Somewhere along the road the algorithm decided I'd love ASMR color mixing videos, and they were correct.

When Netflix added Bob Ross painting videos I'd fall asleep to them every night. Bobby Ross and his little pet squirrel, Peapod, creating a happy little masterpiece in 30 min was great, but what got me was the scraping of the tapping of palette knife and the brushes swooshing across the canvas.

Now my melatonin is an artist named Joshua Javaherian who has the handle @smashingpencils on instagram. I'll clip off 20 of his videos before going to bed, and they never get old.

Fuuuuuuck. I almost dozed off. The best part is he uses different mediums and tools. Sometimes it's mixing paint with a palette knife, sometimes smooshing balls of play-dough with a spatula looking doohickey - all equally satisfying.

What color do you get when you mix all the colors used for Bart Simpson, Eric Cartman, or Patrick Star? Never thought about it, but now I desperately need to know.

I've also realized my color knowledge is incredibly lacking. I've never correctly guessed what the color outcome, not even once. I never had one of those 64 crayon boxes with the sharpener, when I went back to school my Mom sent me with the basic 8 pack. So I'll see these colors being mixed, and I'll say, "that's going to be purple!"

NOPE! You stupid motherfucker. That's Elmo's dick red.

Better luck next time.

Zero chance I don't stop watching these until I get at least one correct.

I hope you're a person with real hobbies and things to do on a Friday night, but if not, I hope you get lost in the weird world of color mixing. HOPEFULLY, none of us end up on TLC My Strange Addiction for this, but I've also got to admit, I kind of want to eat the perfectly rolled dough balls. They look weirdly delicious.
