Tik Tokers Have Turned Fashion Sample Sales Into A Full On War
NY Post- Sample sales have always been chaotic and competitive, but in recent months they’ve become downright ugly.
More and more resellers — who hawk their scores on TikTok and resale sites such as Whatnot and Poshmark — are hitting up the sales with a cutthroat approach. They pay people to wait in line for them, hoard items, do livestream sales in the middle of events and even get in physical altercations.
Last month, police were forced to shutter a Versace sample sale in Chelsea after more than 1,000 shoppers flooded the entrance, leading to various fights between fashionistas.
“It’s that elbows out attitude that’s everywhere,” Susan Davey, 32, an Upper West Sider and a frequent sample sale-shopper, told The Post.
Last week, she tried to hit up a DÔEN sample sale in SoHo that was put on by 260, a company the partners with popular designers, such as Marc Jacobs and Frame, to host sales.
When she finally got to the front, she spent another hour rummaging and weaving through a chaotic showroom of resellers live-streaming their hauls and hovering over piles they’d hoarded so others couldn’t get anything.

We're in a recession folks, or we're still in a recession. Not sure which way is the best way to describe it, but ever since Joe Birrrrrren aka Joey B aka Joey Bicycles been running the joint it's harder to make a buck out here in the streets. People don't have side hustles they have full blown second jobs, and then most still have a side hustle. Gotta be working and grinding to make it through. These Tik Tokers aren't price gauging, or being scumbags, they are just grinding like the rest of the world. They see an opportunity and they are acting on it. Also they aren't scamming anyone, they are winning the old fashion way ... waking up early and camping out and hustling is as old fashioned as it gets. You know why the DMV still works this day an age? Because they don't give a fuck if you are a royal prince or a homeless person, you get your number and you wait until they call you. No skips, no favors, no nothing. Sit and take it up the ass (metaphorically) from the system. That's the way we have to go back to things. They want to solve the demand for Taylor Swift tickets? Make people stand in line. These TikTokers are just holding up justice while trying to make a buck, anyone crying they can't get any items ... wake up early.
