On Behalf Of Secure Women Everywhere, We Stand With (Fellow Swiftie) Caitlin Clark
Despite the fact that I am on record saying my favorite sport is Basketball, I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about women's ball. The only player I could mention off the top of my head is Sue Bird and that's mostly because people in middle school made jokes at my expense for being tall. What I do know, is that I've heard more about women playing basketball (and college hoops, at that) in the past few months than I ever have in my life. This is, without a doubt, directly credited to the talents of fellow Swiftie, Iowa's Caitlin Clark.

I have friends who have never even considered watching, turning the game on to see what all the fuss is about. I find myself bringing her up in conversation just to brag about how women's basketball feels more relevant than men's this year. It couldn't be more obvious to me as a complete outsider that she's bringing eyes to the sport, respect to the women, and generally being cool/real throughout.
So, why is it that every single WNBA/women's ball player I've seen, goes out of their way to try and seemingly "knock her down a peg"? I think Dave said it best (as he always does): it reeks of jealousy.
I'm not going to sit here and act like I haven't committed girl on girl crimes in my day. Its an unfortunate truth that nobody hates on women like women do. I've said it until I'm blue in the face, we've been conditioned to believe that there isn't enough room at the top for all of us, and we have to tear each other down to get there. However, in the year of our lord 2024, the year of Barbie, the year of Taylor Swift, hasn't it become obvious that we can just….support each other? A rising tide raises all ships? Grow the game, grow your wallet? Why are these women going out of their way to discredit and discourage the shine, fame and praise of someone who has literally been carrying a team on her back for years now? Acting like she's a nobody unless she "wins a title," acting like her records aren't "quite the same," arguing semantics instead of just…being thankful that someone has captivated the nation in the way that Caitlin has? She's essentially the gateway to progress at this point, and we want to squander that? It makes zero fucking sense.
All that being said and at the risk of being accused of clout chasing, I stand with Caitlin Clark. Finding out she was a Swiftie was just the cherry on top. Talk that talk, walk that walk, girl. Show these crusty bitches what you can do for the game, and for all of the women you play alongside. We're lucky to have you.
