Tyrese Maxey Has Officially Been Friend Zoned For Being The Future Face Of The NBA After Being "Put In The Conversation"

Oh no Maxey. Oh no!

Can't we just have a MORNING to appreciate how absolutely bonkers awesome Tyrese played last night to put the 76ers on his back and steal a win from the Knicks? Why do we have to do this to him? Why do we have to "in the conversation" him?

"In the conversation" is the sports equivalent to "in the friend zone". What you mean when you say that is he's close in proximity without ever really standing a chance. I'm old enough to remember two days ago when Ant was getting MJ comps for how he's developed and as an MJ idolizer - I get it. Plus I don't think Jokic is going anywhere anytime soon either. Who am I forgetting? Oh yeah - remember that French guy who's two stories tall?

But that's why they put Maxey "in the conversation" as opposed to just saying anything more definitive. If this was a real thought someone would say "he absolutely can be the face of the league". Instead, it's more like when a girl breaks up with her boyfriend and is having a heart to heart with her bestie on who to date next.

Friend: "What about Ned? He's such a nice guy and always listens to you and flowers you with random acts of kindness."

Girl: "Seriously... Ned?"

Congrats Ned. You made the conversation.

We really need to stop making so much out of a player developing into all they can be. Maxey is doing great. Let him be.

Remember Jalen Brunson "in the MVP conversation" last season?

This isn't just an NBA problem. Any player in any sport is susceptible to falling victim to "in the conversation". This one hurts to look back on as a Bears fan.

Don't laugh too hard baseball fans. These were all just from last season.

Mental note. I'm going to do my best to start tracking "in the conversation" players moving forward. Perhaps a support group blog every now and then to check in on all the Neds of their respective sport.
