You Need To Empty The Tank To Win In The Stanley Cup Playoffs, And The Dallas Stars Glass Banger Did Exactly That

It's the playoffs. Every game matters a little more. Every period matters a little more. Every shift matters a little more. You need to be willing to leave it all out there on the ice. Heck, you need to be willing to die out there for your team.

I just hope the Dallas Stars Glass Banger has his affairs in order, because I don't know how sustainable this level of intensity is for the rest of the 'yoffs.

Now listen. There is certainly an argument to be made that Glass Banger makes the game more about himself than the team. The late, great Herb Brooks once said--"the name on the front [of the jersey] is a helluva lot more important than the one on the back". That's the great thing about hockey. You don't have guys like LeBron out there who try to make themselves bigger than the team or bigger than the game. The team is always the most important thing and you'd never put yourself ahead of the team.

And then you have Glass Banger in Dallas. I think he's somewhere in the middle. I can't tell if he thinks the Dallas Stars are the most important thing in his life, or if he thinks that he's the most important part of the Dallas Stars. Is he willing to do anything for the team? If the Dallas Stars told him he needed to watch the game from the upper bowl, would he be willing to just show up and play that role without being an agent of chaos along the glass? I honestly don't know.

But what I do know is that he's going to treat every battle behind the net like it's his last. He only has one speed, and it's full force. You need that in the playoffs, regardless of how goddamn annoying it must be to sit within 15 rows of him. Say what you want about Bang guy, but he's going to give you everything he's got. Because it's the Cup.
