Anne Hathaway Hearing Utter Silence When Asking "Did Anyone Read The Book? " Is Hilarious. Bonus- Top 5 Barstool Personalities Who've Consumed The Least Amount Of Books

Page Six- Anne Hathaway’s appearance on “The Tonight Show” took an uncomfortable turn after she learned the audience hadn’t read the book that her new film, “The Idea of You,” is based on.

While on stage with host Jimmy Fallon on Monday, the “Les Misérables” actress asked, “Has anybody here read the book?”

Silence filled the room as the comedian quickly chimed in, “No, we don’t read. This is ‘The Tonight Show.’ You want to go to Stephen Colbert if you want to get people to read books. Lame!”

“We do Audible here,” Fallon, 49, quipped.

Hathaway, 41, appeared embarrassed as she covered her face while laughing and taking a moment to compose herself.

She recovered quickly, later adding, “What’s a book?”

Just an all timer. Fucking perfect. I think people hate Anne Hathaway which I will never understand, I think she's great. Killed it in Les Mis, and The Intern was a terrific movie, bought her stock and will never sell it. Anyway, absolutely fucking hilarious clip in my opinion. Just a room full of people looking like a pack of gorillas trying to install a lightbulb. Absolutely dumbfounded. The only thing missing was some meathead in the back yelling "Books suck." Just a clear divide between TV people and book people, and Anne got that lesson real quick. Reminds me of one of the best quotes of all time from a Staten Island legend Tom B (the same kid who once yelled " Rookies!!!!!! " while driving past an ambulance outside a shore bar one time). He said, "Reading is for rich people." I don't think the kid has picked up a book in his life and takes pride in it. The entire audience was a room full of Tom B's. Classic.

Got me thinking ... who are my colleagues who are no brainers to have consumed the least amount of books in their lives? 

Here's my Top 5: 

5- White Sox Dave 

Dave likes to act like he went to Northwestern but I think he went to it's cousin school as in distant third cousin. Dave gets a rep for being a Neanderthal but I think he sneaky has consumed a few books on hitting, dipping, and baseball by accident. Like he took a really long shit one day and accidentally read 4 chapters of something before he realized it was time to wipe. He can do things when he puts his mind to it, it's just a matter of when he turns his mind on or not. He's still in the bottom percentile of the company but he's at the top of this list because we for sure have a bunch of people here who treat books like UFO's. 

4- Dana Beers / Mush 

Lumped these two together because they share a brain, but have never shared a book. 

3- Mintzy

A no brainer on this list. However given how much he travels, and may not always spring for the internet on the plane, I have to think he's put down one or two James Patterson's novels in his time going from one "content event"  concert to another "content event"    charity basketball game. He also could have read a few books on his commute into work, but thats once a month at max so it hurts his number. If Wake Up Mintz goes back to full time and he's popping the paperbacks maybe he moves off the Top 5 but he's currently stuck on the list. 

2- Gaz 

 I actually asked Gaz how many books he's read in his life and he audibly laughed at me. I still have to put him at 2 here because I feel like one of the 20 something's he courts mentioned she likes to read and he devoured a Nicholas Sparks novel before going to Tao or Eleven so they had something to talk about in the cab ride. Game respects game Gaz-o. 

1- Nicky Smokes 

I hope he realizes this is tongue and cheek and doesn't go lunacy mode like he does on Francis, especially when he's in the dumps about the Heat loss, but at best I think Smokes has googled the Kama Sutra but never picked up the hard copy which is why he's #1 bonafide on this list. No debate, no questions. Nicky Smokes and Tom B are essentially the same person. "Reading is for rich people."
