Canelo Alvarez Just Signed The Richest Athlete Contract In History (Worth $365,000,000!)

Earlier today it was announced that Canelo Alvarez, the WBA (Super), WBC and Ring Magazine Middleweight Champion, inked an 11-fight, 5-year deal with DAZN worth $365 MILLION DOLLARS.

To break that down a bit…

Yep.

$73 Million per year.

$6,083,333 per month.

$1,520,833 per week.

$197,297 per day.

$7,556 per hour.

$138 per minute.

Could you even fucking fathom having that much money?! I feel like that’s more money than there is in the entire world. I literally have a hard time fathoming how the world’s economy can stay afloat if we’re letting Canelo Alvarez have this much money, but I digress.

DAZN is a streaming service for combat sports that launched in the United States just this past September, but they’ve made major strides already in capitalizing on HBO cutting the chord on their boxing programming after forty-five years, clearly. I use DAZN regularly to watch Bellator, and I will say: it’s pretty fantastic. They’ve got apps on the Xbox and Playstation stores and all that so you could watch fights on your television easily, their website/dashboard is super easy to navigate, and honestly, I’ve never seen so much as a hiccup during one of their streams. It’s pretty impressive stuff, and that isn’t an ad, I’ve got no dog in this fight. Just Bob-to-reader truthness. You know?

Alvarez will move up to Super Middleweight now, and meet Rocky Fielding in his first fight with DAZN on December 15th at Madison Square Garden.

¡Felicidades to Alvarez on the new deal!

P.S. If you’re making this kinda cash, you better make sure the meat you’re consuming ain’t contaminated with large amounts of steroids. I feel like that’s a fair request.
