Robbie’s Top 20 WrestleMania Moments – 14. Mr. WrestleMania Returns

robbietopwm

Sup yo? If you’re unaware, I’m doing a blog per day leading up to WrestleMania where I talk about my personal favorite 20 Mania moments of all time. Keep in mind I’m 18, so a lot of my picks will be on the more recent side.

14. Mr. WrestleMania Returns

Surprise, surprise. The Showstopper makes another appearence on the list. This is his third, and he’s still got four to go. They don’t call him Mr. Wrestlemania for nothin’.

I wrote about what WrestleMania 19 meant to me on Thursday when talking about Hulk Hogan vs Vince McMahon, but that was only the big match for me. Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho was the best match. It’s one of my favorite matches of all time, in fact. The storyline going in giving teacher vs student vibes was the perfect route to go, even though that relationship never existed. The way Jericho’s similar style to Michaels turned into a “stolen” style from Michaels, and came to a peak in this match when the two went back in fourth, trading the exact same moves and sequences is pro graps psychology at it’s finest. This was also the start of the greatest run in Wrestlemania history, where Michaels faced Triple H in a triple threat match, followed by Kurt Angle, Vince McMahon, John Cena, Ric Flair, and The Undertaker twice. And while Chris Jericho didn’t go over like many thought he should have, he got the iconic moment at the end when he spits in the face of respect and kicks HBK in the balls, which is much more memorable than a win.

If you have the time, you need to watch this match, and I’d go as far as saying you need to watch their rivalry renewed in 2008. It got so brutal that many believe it sent the WWE straight into the PG era.

Check back tomorrow for a nice little feel good title win.
