WANE - Apparently a Virginia mom has not learned her lesson. Laquanda Newby, 25, has been charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency or abuse of a child after police said she left her children inside her hot car outside of the Henrico County Courthouse on Monday, June 8, 2015. The kicker? Newby was at the courthouse to turn herself in after being accused of leaving her children in her car May 26 while she shopped at an area Sam’s Club. After police discovered the children in the car with the windows shut, Newby was booked into the Henrico Jail. Officers brought the kids, ages 6 and 1, inside and gave them water and snacks until their father came and picked them up. Officials could not say exactly how long the children were in the car, but surveillance footage showed the kids were in the car for more than an hour. Temperatures in Henrico County reportedly reached 90 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday. “Their shirts were wet, sweat rolling off their brows,” Henrico Sheriff’s Capt. David Kinkle told WTVR. “They seemed to be OK, but it was very hot.”

YESSSSS. Favorite story of the year. Does not get much better than this. Just to summarize, Laquanda goes to court because she left her kids in the burning hot car. But she left her kids in the car on a 90 degree day at the courthouse. That is amazing. Like in her head, her thought process was that she was doing the right thing, turning herself in, taking her punishment. But what can you do when you have kids? Babysitters these days are crazy expensive. And their father was at work. So she had to bring the rugrats with her. But you ever been around kids in an important place? Dumb kids just running around, causing scenes, bumping into people. She couldn’t risk that. So she did the logical thing and left them in the car. I love the idea. Foolproof. Good for her. A+. Nothing like leaving a 1 year old in a car on a 90 degree day to fight charges about leaving your 1 year old in a car on a 90 degree day. If anything, I guess she had evidence that you can do that and they won’t die? Boom. Case dismissed.
