Chase Utley wasn’t the greatest athlete to don a Philadelphia uniform. Hell, he wasn’t even the best player on any given Phillies team – Howard won an MVP in ’06 then Jimmy, who arguably could be a Hall Of Famer, followed suit in ’07. Not to mention Doc certainly belongs in Cooperstown and Cole Hamels put (and is putting) together some amazing years. But Chase Utley is Philadelphia. The way he played plays the game embodies this city to a T. He never complained, never went out of line, and ALWAYS put his body out on the line for the team. It didn’t matter whether it was a chopper to second or a play at the plate, Chase was going 100 all the time. Sure, that was the reason for his multiple stints on the DL and why his knees will disintegrate by the time he’s 40, but it was all worth it in the end. Chase and the crew could/should have won at least 1 more during their prime from ’07-’11, but whatever. The Man deserves all the recognition he can get. World. Fucking. Champions.
