Don't Listen To The Haters, Unfrosted Was An Absolute Delight

When I saw the preview for Unfrosted, I was more than intrigued. It looked like an awesome flick with an A+ cast.

It was one of those trailers where I showed my wife and said, "We gotta see this!". I was delighted it was out directly on Netflix on Friday May 3rd and made plans to see it that weekend. I hadn't heard much until I saw one of the big time movie guys, Jeff D. Lowe rip it to shreds.

I needed to express my disappointment as it was hard for me to imagine it flopping that bad after that preview!

Jeff's response was funny and…fair. We don't always see eye-to-eye on movies.

And I'll be the first to admit, I'm not a big time movie guy. When I lived in New York City, I went to the movies about 3-6 times/month. Something Jeff and I do agree on is the AMC at 68th St. & Broadway is the crown jewel viewing experience in the city. With a few of the theatres being multiple floors, it really provides a great atmosphere to catch that latest film on the silver screen.

But that was a long time ago. I got married, moved to the suburbs, had kids, and don't get the time to get to the theatre anywhere near as often any more. I'm lucky if I get to 12 movies/year nowadays. But with Unfrosted coming out on Netflix, this was an easy way to catch what I deemed to be an enticing movie opening weekend, at home. Outside of Jeff's criticism, I hadn't seen any reviews on Unfrosted before I watched it with the Mrs. on Saturday night. And boy let me tell you…it was an absolute delight!

Beyond that, I can't understand how anybody wouldn't like this movie?! It's Jerry Seinfeld. So if you liked the TV series, Seinfeld, it's that type of humor. Observational, quirky quips. This movie IS NOT Argo or Moonlight or a serious drama that critics would hail for it's storyline or acting. It's an over the top silly movie filled with jokes exploring how the Pop Tart was created.

The storyline was funny, the actors were tremendous, the joke telling hit for me consistently. I loved it. Not only that, it was one of the better comedies I'd seen in the past decade. I gave it a 9.2/10 and am calling it a must watch for anyone that likes Jerry Seinfeld and is ok with a silly movie. If you go into it with that mindset, I'm confident it'll hit for you too. But then again…my movie rating scale is all over the place.
