Former MLB Player Monte Harrison (A 4-Star Recruit Back In 2014) Has Committed To Play Football At Arkansas

Well that's pretty fucking crazy / cool / unbelievable. The way this story goes is that Monte Harrison was a 4-star wide receiver prospect out of Missouri back in 2014, committing to Nebraska to play football. But he never made it to campus, as he was selected in the 2nd round of the MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and chose the baseball route. Not a bad decision, especially at the time without NIL, as he signed with a $1.8 million bonus after the draft. And while he didn't become a Hall of Famer by any means, he did make it all the way to the pros, debuting for the Miami Marlins in 2020. He did stints in the Majors in 2020, 2021, and 2022, appearing in 50 games. He finished his baseball career with a .176 batting average.

And now, at 28 years old, his college football career is finally starting, committing to walk-on at Arkansas this season. And while he doesn't have football tape in the last decade, his baseball film appears to show some skills that may come in handy on Saturdays in the Fall.

Okay, Monte! Not the best timing, but certainly has the athleticism. Remember, we're talking Arkansas here....not Georgia. Anyways, what are the chances this guy actually plays? I'm assuming he has to do the JR Smith golf walk-on route because he made money in the pros, or does NIL allow him to get a scholarship now if he wanted? Either way, I would like to think that Arkansas doesn't take this guy unless they think he could help at some point, and I'd think no chance this dude does this unless he really thinks it's the best use of his time, seeing as he turns 30 next year. I mean, the dude is going to be in the same locker room as 18 year old kids....

But maybe he'll be a success and it'll all be worth it. I mean, the path is there. Don't forget that Chris Weinke was 28 when he won the Heisman Trophy, Brandon Weeden was 28 when he was drafted in the 1st round to the Browns, and Joe Thomas Sr was FIFTY-FIVE when he carried the football for 3 yards on his Senior Day.
