The Yankees Rock Chris Sale, Get a Great Start From Domingo on Domingo, And Avoid The Sweep In Fenway

Thank the lord for Domingo German. In a time where we needed him the most, that man came through with a fantastic performance on Sunday night. The numbers might not say fantastic with three runs allowed in 5.1 innings, but don’t kid yourself, he was GREAT tonight.
German came out firing, striking out six in the first three frames, allowing just one base runner on Gleyber’s error. He gave the Yankees energy with his stuff tonight. A shot of adrenaline. The offense looked at themselves with a sigh of relief that they didn’t need to crawl out of a 5-0 lead right off the bat. Nine punch outs total for Mingo. Just what the doctor ordered from Domingo on Domingo.
Offensively, the Yankees rocked Chris Sale again. You won’t believe this, but the Red Sox are 0-3 against the Yanks this year when Sale takes the ball. His ERA in those games is 7.71 so it’s not like he’s getting unlucky with run support in those losses. Nope, the Yanks just have his number right now. Sure, that can all change in the blink of an eye with a guy who has that kind of stuff, but right now I’m not scared of him.

An inning later Didi buried this hanging slider for his own two run shot. He had just missed a homer by a few feet in his previous at bat. He was seeing the left well.
Didi’s been locked in for a few weeks now and it’s awesome to watch. Extend him before the season ends please.
The Red Sox were sloppy all over the place tonight. Xander let one go under his glove that scored a run, Brock Holt dropped a ball in foul territory, and JBJ (someone I’m constantly told is better than Aaron Hicks) threw a baseball to Yankees first base coach Reggie Willits. Interesting strategy that resulted in two Yankees runs.

That really made things easier the rest of the way. The Sox threatened a few times, but Kahnle, Ottavino, and Britton skated around some traffic on the bases. Chapman is just an asshole.
Big win man. It just really is. A lot of people came into tonight assuming the sweep with Sale on the mound. Instead Domingo shoved, they rocked Sale, and they get out of Boston avoiding a 4 game sweep. The Red Sox come away only gaining two games instead of four. That is such a difference. It’s a mental boost along with a physical boost. You wake up on Monday owning a 7-4 head to head record with Boston. You’re 10 up in the division in the loss column. Everyone just take a deep breath.
Like I said earlier today, which was just reiterated on the telecast by Buster Olney, the Red Sox did the Yankees a favor this weekend. They exploited the Yankees’ achilles heel, starting pitching. It’s very clear they need to address it now. Clear as day. They cannot enter October, or the stretch run even, with the current rotation they have. Severino isn’t coming back anytime soon and you don’t know what you’re even going to get. You might be able to get something out of Mike King or Montgomery. Might. CC is back on the I.L. with knee inflammation. Paxton and Happ stink. Tanaka’s splitter isn’t splitting. These are big problems. Brian Cashman has a big farm system to use to get multiple guys. He can’t be afraid to over pay. Use these guys and get arms. Good ones.

The next three days all eyes are on the Cash God. He’s failed in the past at getting arms that work in New York. If the Yankees are going to win championship number 28 in the fall, that’ll need to change.
