I'm All For Healthy Eating But Plant Based Reese's Are A Complete Waste Of Time

AP News- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are getting the vegan treatment.

The Hershey Co. said Tuesday that Reese’s Plant Based Peanut Butter Cups, which go on sale this month, will be its first vegan chocolates sold nationally. A second plant-based offering, Hershey’s Plant Based Extra Creamy with Almonds and Sea Salt, will follow in April.

The chocolates are made with oats instead of milk, Hershey said.

Hershey has experimented with vegan chocolate before. It sold an oat-based chocolate bar called Oat Made in some test markets starting in 2021. But the new products will be the first sold throughout the U.S. under the “Plant Based” label.

Hershey said consumers want choice and are looking for products they consider healthier or with fewer ingredients, including reduced sugar and plant-based options. Hershey also introduced an organic version of Reese’s Cups in February 2021.

I'm all for healthy eating … I really am. I think choosing a salad over a burger and fries is a great choice. I also (having been poor) know that people often choose a fast food place because it's way cheaper than healthy food which is a problem and a discussion for another day. Anyway, healthy eating is great. But sometimes everything has a limit. It's perfectly fine to cut down the size of sodas at places to 24 oz as a large instead of 44 oz. No one needs that much soda. Or making smaller portions of fries etc. That's fine. On the other hand, every once in a while it's ok to mix in a sweet, a candy or even a treat every now and then. Not everyone can be a robot who eats healthy all the time, but if they do God Bless. The rest of us will mix in with some sweets now and again. You need the change of pace, and you need to have some sugar. It's just a fact.

The reason people want those sweets etc is because they taste good. Trying to convince people to eat a Reese's because it's healthy doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Like I said people are choosing to eat a Reese's knowing they aren't healthy. We want to eat them because they taste great. I'm not an expert on cooking, but I am pretty sure plant based Reese's are a downgrade to regular Reese's. Which to me is a complete waste of time why they are even being made. People will know they aren't as good, and will just buy the regular Reese's. Anyone who does buy them is pretending they want to eat healthy or is a moron who is lying to themselves that they taste good. It's a big crock of shit. Why waste your time?

Now…I will say this in closing, if Reese's / Hershey can somehow make the peanut butter cups taste the exact same but be healthier that's a double win. I however know that has to be impossible because they taste so damn good, they have to be bad for you. That's the price you pay.
