It Was An All Time Saturday At Mardi Gras In NOLA!

Saturday was the full NOLA Mardi Gras experience all wrapped it up into 16 hours. It literally had it all….. rode in a parade, flash flooding & a world class music festival to boot!

Let's recap one of the wildest New Orleans days of my lifetime.

8:00

I woke up ready to roll in the Krewe of Freret but my dumbass still had to go to Mardi Gras Spot to buy my beads to ride in the float. Bad weather was expected so the parade was moved up from 2:30 start time to noon to try to dodge it.

I went to Mardi Gras Spot in Mid City and was able to score quite the package.

9:30

I rushed over to Mardi Gras World for the Krewe of Freret pre-party. We were supposed to be loaded on the floats by 10:30. There was live music and a festive spirit in the air.

My beads were heavy as hell and I had to walk a long way with them. Way more difficult than I imagined.

Krewe of Freret is known for musicians riding in the parade and Shorty Gras after. I was originally supposed to ride on Juvenile's float but got transferred to Big Freedia's with some friends of mine. One of them was Trishelle from the Real World back in the day.

Quigs came out with a hilarious graphic about the trade as he always does.

11:00

Our float started rolling towards the parade start on Napoleon. I caught a huge break being on the bottom as we were shielded from the bad weather for the most part.

All hell broke loose once the parade started on Napoleon and St. Charles in uptown Nola. Riding in one of these is a sensory overload to the max! There's nothing like it!

I accidentally smoked some poor girl with beads. Not my proudest moment…..

The Stoolies were everywhere! I was blown away by the Mintzy and King of The South chants all over the place!

Thanks to Johnny Amareni for inviting me to ride! He was the king of Freret two years ago.

3:00

The weather reports turned out to be accurate as it started pouring. Within two hours, New Orleans was flash flooding and it was MADNESS in the streets!

5:00

I went to Avenue Pub to watch Auburn/Ole Miss with my buddies. The water was so bad that you could not even get in the front door of the bar!

My car was on a flood plane too. I was lucky to get it out of there before the water got too high. Auburn also trounced Ole Miss in the 2nd half.

7:15

It was a titanic pain in the ass to get back to Mardi Gras World for Shorty Gras. I had to re-route at least 5 times to dodge the flooding in the streets but luckily I made it.

And I am glad I did! Dumpstaphunk, Trombone Shorty, Juvenile & Nelly killed it!

I felt like I was in a simulation when Juvenile sang "Back That Azz Up"! Was so freaking wild! (I obviously did not record as I am super careful about rap lyrics these days)

12:00

Nelly closed the show with Country Grammar and a bunch of other older hits. It felt like it was 3am at that point with how long the day had been.

I called the night soon after. But what a Saturday! It was the full New Orleans experience wrapped into 16 hours…. it literally had it all.

I already cannot wait to ride in Krewe of Freret next year and hopefully we can get some more Barstool employees down here to join for the joyous occasion.

Let The Good Times Roll!
