Legendary Bruins Play By Play Announcer Jack Edwards Has Announced His Retirement

It's (almost) the end of an era. Jack Edwards announced today via the Bruins and NESN that the conclusion of this season will be his last as the play by play announcer for the Boston Bruins. Jack Edwards' voice has been a staple in my life for as long as I can even remember, and man he's had some amazing calls. Bergeron's OT winner against the Leafs in 2013 is at the top of my list... I actually vividly remember reading Dave's blog in real time about it as well. "THE BRUINS KNOCK OUT MONTREAL" from 2011 will be engraved in my brain forever. What I loved most about Jack was his energy and passion for the game. Yes, he was a homer. He drove other fan bases (and even sometimes Bruins fans) NUTS with his commentary. But I loved that. He was our homer. You could never deny his passion and what it meant to him to call games. Unfortunately, the last few years have been rough for him, and doctors couldn't figure out what the root of his speech issues were. He seemed a step behind at times, and for a man who exudes enthusiasm, it was tough to watch. 19 years as the voice of the Boston Bruins and now he will wrap up with (at least) 5 more games. Time for the B's to go on a run...
