Pretty straight forward non-story that I’m blogging to make it look like I’m really going above and beyond on a glorious Saturday afternoon. 49ers GM John Lynch tweeted out a congratulatory message to Terrell Owens for joining the fight against Alzheimers to which T.O. took the opening to tell the guy who signs the checks that his services are readily available if San Francisco should choose to acquire them. Four hours later and Lynch must’ve eaten his phone or thrown it into the nearest ravine because there’s been radio silence from his end ever since.

Which makes all the sense in the world since Terrell Owens hasn’t played in the NFL since 2010. But I’m not going to count the 44-year old Hall of Famer out. No sir. Not me. If T.O. says he can still play in the NFL then I believe him. In his last season, which, again, was eight years ago, he put up 70.2 yards per game and nine touchdowns over 14 games for the Cincinnati Bengals. Which feels wildly incorrect because that’s a helluva season for a 37-year old but that’s what pro-football-reference.com is telling me so that’s what we’re running with. For comparison, during his eight year run in San Francisco, better known as the first eight years of his career, he averaged 70.8 yards per game. I don’t know why I’m fully breaking down T.O.’s career as if the 49ers are actually going to sign him to a veteran minimum contract but honestly they should. Look at this receiver group they have for Jimmy G.

    P. U.

Pierre Garçon is as consistent as consistent gets, Dante Pettis was just a second round pick so hopefully he hits, and Marquise Goodwin is fast as hell, but don’t try and tell me Aaron Burbridge or Steven Dunbar is a better option than Terrell Owens at any age.

Do the right thing, John Lynch. Make T.O. the first NFL player in the Hall of Fame to put the pads back on. Now cue the damn highlight reel.
