Wake Up With An NBA Top 10: Baron Davis

Good morning everybody, happy Friday! You made it, here we are at the end of the week with the weekend so close you can taste it. All you have to do is find a way to make today fly by or at least the morning portion so maybe you can dip out a little early on this summer Friday. To help motivate you, we’re going to be looking at the Top 10 plays of Baron Davis’ career. This is personally one of my favorite countdowns we’ve done so far because Davis was that exciting of a talent. He played 835 games over his 13 year career that spanned a total of 5 franchises (Hornets, Warriors, Clippers, Knicks and Cavs). I’m confident in saying that during his prime years of 2001-08 there may have not been a more exciting guard in the entire NBA. Baron was that unique blend of size and explosiveness that had a devastating crossover in his arsenal, and really he helped pave the way for these super athletic big time dunkers of the new generation.

Davis was a 2x All Star, 2x NBA steals leader, and made one 3rd Team All NBA squad. While he doesn’t have a ring Baron was pretty solid in the playoffs averaging 18.8/4.3/6.2/2.3 on 44/35% splits, and he was ridiculous during that 2007 run with the Warriors averaging more than 25 a game for that fun Warriors team (before the world started hating them). When looking at NBA history I’m not sure where Baron Davis falls. He finished 39th all time in 3PM, 36th in assists, 43rd in steals, 25th in assists per game, so it’s not as if he’s a HOF player or anything, but when you watched him play at full health you knew you were watching something special. If you were building a ream of some of the best players to never win a ring, he could for sure be your starting point guard because he was that good on both ends.

So hopefully this countdown gets your blood pumping on this final day of the week, just watch and appreciate how hard of a dunker this dude was from the point guard position. Think Russell Westbrook before Russell Westbrook, that’s probably the best way I could compare his dunking ability.
