You Know Why The Yankees Always Win, Frank?

“It’s because the other teams can’t stop looking at those damn pinstripes.”

If you aren’t familiar with that line it is from Catch Me If You Can. As a lifelong baseball fan, it is one of the most accurate quotes in movie history. Watching this young Phillies team get 3-hit by a very, very good Yankees team was a testament to that quote.

The Yankees came into last night’s game 50-25 and 21-14 on the road. They possess one of the most dangerous lineups in recent memory and are well on their way to breaking MLB’s team Home Run record. I would kill for the Phillies to have this type of lineup. Tack on a lights-out bullpen, and above average starting pitching you might as well punch the Postseason ticket for the Yanks right now.

Then you combine this with Yankee fan’s pouring into Citizens Bank Park like it was free admission to the Bronx Zoo. Their fan’s have traveled well for generations and you just can’t help but respect it. But last night was just something else.

The Phillies are the youngest team in baseball. They have a rookie manager, a young GM, and a plethora of fans who have disappeared. The Phils were in awe of the Pinstripes last night. Phillies fans were in awe of the Pinstripes last night. We all entered last nights game stupified, but even worse intrigued because we know this used to be us. We were once the fans who invaded Ballparks. A Phillies jersey used to be something that the competition couldn’t take their eye off of.

The Rhys Hoskins yelling at a fan thing is another non-issue. He addressed it, it’s over. But it just made my point even stronger that this young Phillies team was clearly not ready last night. They might not be ready tonight either. But after seeing that invasion of Yankees hats in the stands, I am making it my mission to open up Philadelphia’s eyes again. We can’t let this happen, we mustn’t.

If I didn’t work 3 jobs, I would be there every night because I truly believe this team and this manager are that good. All I can do is spread the word about a team I love and on a platform I love. We are a Champion city, so let’s start acting as such.

Go Phils.
