Yeah we’ve reached the “do not fall asleep anything could happen at any moment” stage of Manny Mania. This happened in December with Stanton after we got word a deal was in the works and that he had been visiting Yankee Stadium earlier in the day. That Friday night was a night where sleep didn’t matter. At the break of dawn the deal became official and everything changed. There are a ton of different reports out there, but the most recent piece of news to drop was that the O’s now want Machado traded BEFORE the All Star Break. At the moment it appears the Yankees top pitching prospect, Justus Sheffield, is not being included in trade talks. If Cashman is able to pull this off without giving up Sheff or Florial then he truly is the master of the dark arts.

A deal is imminent and all signs point to New York. I’m refreshing Twitter every 13 seconds because that’s what number Manny wants to wear in pinstripes. Part of me really thinks this gets done today in the afternoon, but we’ll have to see. He could very well be fucking with us with that like on Instagram and I’ve also heard his wife frequents on there regularly as they have a shared account. It’s so easy and harmless, yet cruel at the same time. He also could just give zero fucks and be making his future plans very obvious.

As for last night’s game against the O’s, Sonny Gray pitched great. In a game that he needed to show up in and show some life, he was on from the start. Sonny attacked hitters and got ahead in counts. When he needed to make pitches he did. Sonny went six shutout innings, striking out eight, allowing just three hits. He mainly relied on his two seamer and curveball the whole night, trying to make things simple on the mound. It worked. It was a step in the right direction, but he still has a long way to go to get back in our good graces. Now at least he can get to the All Star Break and hit the reset button. Build off this start and try to right the ship in the second half.

Greg Bird provided the big blast of the night with his grand slam off the foul pole.

Bird has had a good few days against the O’s, but needs to keep it up and be consistent. A Yankee lineup with Bird living up to his hype is a scary lineup to all. I’m still a skeptic. Giancarlo Stanton had four hits and raised his batting average to .276. That is one man I would not want to pitch to during the second half of the year. He’s completely locked in.

Tyler Wade blasted his first career home run tonight which I wasn’t sure would ever happen.

The handsome kid got the silent treatment in the dugout before being mobbed by the guys. It must feel good to be getting a few hits and contributing after a brutal start to the season. He said he blacked out while circling the bases.

Tommy Smokes and I just wrapped up a Manny Mania edition of The Short Porch. We’ve got a full breakdown of the rumors, where he’ll play, and who we think is getting traded for him. Subscribe and listen below.
