Baseball is full of weird and quirky stats. I mean all you have to look at is Tony Gwynn’s career to come across his insane strikeout accomplishments, like in the year 1995 when he only struck out 15 times. He only had one three-strikeout game in his career. He went on a non-strikeout game streak of more than 20 games, 11 times in his career. They’re laugh out loud ridiculous as you really dive in, but Joey Votto might have topped them all.

I’ve sat at my desk and just stared at the screen for 10 minutes just trying to grasp how that’s possible. If you told me he went one season without doing this I’d be astonished. You mean to tell me in his entire career Joey has never popped up to the catcher. How on Earth is that real?

It gets even better. These are how many infield pop-ups he has since 2010….SEVEN. As in less than 10, less than 9, less than 8. This motherfucker has seven infield pop-ups in the last eight years.

How the fuck is that possible? How have you never popped-up to the catcher in your career? Baseball is the most random sport on the planet. Anything can happen in any given at bat, yet Votto refuses to do this. This stat may affect the rest of my day. I’m going to be ordering my lunch and just freeze at the counter because Joey Votto never popped up to the catcher, pitcher, or first baseman in his 6,563 career plate appearances. He has to be aware of this by now right? Someone has to have told him he’s never done something that every other player in the history of the sport has probably done.

Joey Votto may have hall of fame numbers with his absurd career on base percentage, but he gets in just with these two stats alone.
