That Sound You Hear Is Every Rockets Fan Talking Themselves Into Carmelo Anthony

Ahhhhhhh yes, our favorite yearly tradition. There is nothing, and I mean nothing that gets Melo’s blood flowing more than cooking in a summer highlight video resulting in loads and loads of false hope for whatever fanbase currently has to watch him. We all remember last year right? When we officially got Hoodie Melo and he looked unstoppable?

This was just last summer, and how would we say he looked for the Thunder? Not great Bob! And yet, this video coming out was entirely predictable as soon as we got news that he was officially joining Houston, because this is what Melo does. I can guarantee you there are tons of Rockets fans saying one of these things to themselves as they watched those highlights

“You know what, Melo still has it!”

“You get Melo in this system and I dunno man, I think he could make a real impact”

“Melo, CP3, Harden, who are you going to leave open!!”

“Morey is such a monster for getting Melo for basically nothing, he just needed a change of scenary!”

I get it, I maybe more than anybody on the planet know how intoxicating a quick summer workout video can be, so I don’t fault HOU fans for the wishful thinking. I would be doing the exact same thing. The only problem is….

Hopefully nobody falls for this blatant trap for the second year in a row, and if you do, you have no one to blame but yourself. On the flip side, it is pretty awesome to watch a guy even as washed up as Melo still be able to get buckets like this in a pick up setting. It sort of puts into perspective just how good you are even when you’re at the end of the road. I mean some of those contested makes were downright impressive. I foresee a very successful Big 3 career in Melo’s future. It wasn’t just him either, I mean even Brandon Jennings looked good here, and he’s a disaster! To be fair Stanley Johnson also impressed me and is no where close to being washed up but that’s besides the point.

At the end of the day there is no debating Melo’s place in basketball history. One of the best pure scorers the league has ever seen and a sure lock for the Hall Of Fame. Unfortunately, his attempt to show people he can still bring it through summer workout videos just isn’t going to cut it anymore. He fucked that up by not backing nit up last season. But when Rockets fans look at their roster and see they replaced their wing depth with guys like Michael Carter-Williams, I don’t blame them for wanting to believe in Melo.

Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
