Thank God For J.A. Happ

I love me some J.A. Happ folks. Since coming over from Toronto, the man has been as solid as can be, and he’s saving me from going completely insane. Where are the New York Yankees without J.A. Happ or Lance Lynn? Seriously. Every time these guys go out there they give us quality starts. When Yankees starters produce quality starts, they win the baseball game (45 of 49 which is essentially historic). When starters go deep for this team it most importantly prevents Boone from making horrible bullpen decisions. Happ goes seven last night, Betances was the obvious call for the 8th, and then Chapman for the 9th to close it out. Simple. Impossible to fuck up. Happ gave up one single hit last night in a dominant performance, going seven strong.

In his three starts with New York, Happ is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA, holding opponents to a .181 batting average. What we have been searching for Sonny Gray to do in his time with the Yankees, Happ has actually done. He’s pitched like a true number two pitcher so far. I know it’s three fucking starts, but Sonny Gray never gave us a string like this ever so yeah I’m going to get excited about it. Sue me. I feel confident when I see J.A. Happ is pitching. I don’t necessarily feel that way about Severino and Tanaka.

Let’s not forget Cashman gave up Brandon Drury, a guy who secretly had a broken hand, for Happ. They also gave up Billy McKinney, but Drury was the main prize. In return they got a big answer to their rotation problems. Now it would nice if Luis Severino didn’t turn into Sonny Gray over the last month, but if Sevy was doing this without the help of Lynn and Happ right now this team would be in complete disarray. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thank God for Lance Lynn and J.A. Happ.
