Molly's Game Was Great, But Now I Need A Movie About Jeremy Bloom Because His Life Makes Absolutely Zero Sense

I finally got around to watching Molly’s Game over the weekend. I knew I would like it, but never got around to watching it, and obviously it was great. For those not in the know, it is the true story of Molly Bloom, a former world champion skier who then transitioned into running very high stakes poker games in LA for celebrities like Toby Maguire, Leo, Ben Affleck, and many others. She made millions upon millions of dollars running these underground games, and eventually was tried in federal court for running an illegal gambling ring.

While Molly’s story is fascinating, weirdly, I don’t think she is the most fascinating person in her own family. That honor, in my opinion, goes to her brother, Jeremy Bloom.

Jeremy Bloom was:

The top ranked skier in the world 2005.

Think about that. Think about how much work and practice and precision that goes into becoming the number 1 skier in the entire world. You’d think he’d have time for nothing else. But nah. At the same time he was playing for the University of Colorado football team, seeing time as a freshman and a sophomore.

He then put his football career on hold to ski in the freaking Olympics for team USA, before getting drafted by the Eagles in the 5th round of the 2006 draft. It bottles my mind to even think about. Nobody becomes the number 1 skier in the world. Nobody gets drafted into the NFL. And he did both. Sure there have been other 2 sport athletes in the world, sprinters turned NFL WRs, Bo Jackson who is probably the best 2 sport athlete of all time, and Drew Henson fascinates me that he was able to play 2 sports at the highest level. But Jeremy Bloom’s 2 sports have little to nothing in common, and he was a 5’9 white dude, and he somehow did it. Really blows my mind.

But it gets even better.

What does he do now? He runs a $100 million tech company that he founded. He went from being one of the best athletes on the planet to being a Silicon Valley big wig.

I think what the movie subtly does very well is talk about how successful of a family they are overall. The other kid is like a rocket surgeon or something. They remind me of the Winklevosses but way less punchable.

Overall, I give the movie 8.5/10 Natey Tomatoes. I assume Sorkin is waiting for  Jeremy to get involved in a ponzi scheme or some insider trading, that’s when we’ll get his movie.
