Conor McGregor Just Launched His Own Brand Of Whiskey
Conor McGregor stepped up to the podium for his post-fight press conference on August 26th, 2017 a defeated fighter – but certainly not a defeated man. A bottle of whiskey in one hand, a cup of said whiskey in the other, he started off, “Let me put my whiskey down – my NOTORIOUS IRISH WHISKEY – coming soon.”.
This was the first indication the world had gotten as to McGregor’s next business plan – his own brand of whiskey. I remember sitting on the bed of my hotel room in Vegas that night, extremely proud of my all-time favorite for his performance in the squared circle, and thinking about how truly amazing it is that one man from Crumlin – a small town in Dublin’s 12th district with a population of under four thousand people – went from collecting welfare checks to making a hundred million dollars in his professional boxing debut in just four years.
In his words, “From nothing…to something…to everything.” – to the point where he’s about to have his own brand of alcohol?! That was just insane for me to hear, in a delightfully-insane way. That’s something we only associate with exclusively iconic names in history – Samuel Adams, Jack Daniel, Sean “P Diddy” Combs, Turtle from Entourage, etc., so hearing that McGregor was next to be immortalized in this way was oddly a factor in helping me realize that he’s made it. That he will never, until the end of time, be forgotten for what he has done for mixed martial arts…and now, combat sports as a whole.
So – keeping my feelings on this moment in mind – you could imagine I was delighted last week to receive a message letting me know I’d be the first to be gifted a bottle of this whiskey Conor spoke about following the “Fight of the Century” – alongside my boss, Dave Portnoy, that is.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey.
Named after the district in which he grew up in, Conor McGregor and Co. proudly bring to you – a proper whiskey for all. Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey.
It’s made at the oldest whiskey distillery in the world (located in Ireland), and since McGregor is an extreme perfectionist, apparently has undergone hundreds of alterations in the past few months to be truly perfect.
I’ve never had whiskey, but I’ll tell ya what, if I ever did, it’d be this one. Not just because I’m staring across from a bottle that was a personal gift from Team McGregor, but because I know the Champ, and I know the Champ wouldn’t lie to me, or you. If he’s been grinding away in his Peaky Blinders getup distilling whiskey for years, really crafting that perfect flavor, and putting his endorsement behind this, it’s going to be the best whiskey you’ve ever tasted…and hopefully on October 6th, after he’s knocked unconcious by the Notorious himself, Khabib will have some Proper No. Twelve waiting for him in his locker room to ease the pain. Because I think this stuff is really the only thing that’ll be able to flip THAT frown upside down after the King’s return. Oh, and the stuff’s affordable too! 35 Euros – or like $25-$30 bucks here in America for a bottle. Not bad at all.
I look forward to my first sip on July 9th of next year. A Proper™ way to ring in my birthday.
