After Back-To-Back Walk-Off Losses In Cleveland, The Red Sox Just Need The Playoffs To Start
What a weird series. You’ve got two playoff teams going at it in somewhat of a playoff atmosphere without the playoff effort. That last part could not be emphasized enough for all of the negative ass sports radio listeners out there who, this morning, are like, “SEE! I TOLD YA THEY CAN’T BEAT THE GOOD TEAMS! FRAUD ASS 100-WIN TEAM!” Shut the fuck up, dude.
That was actually directed at negative Red Sox fans who complain about everything, but now I see that the Cleveland blogger has written about me again. Something about how he wanted to get excited about beating a couple of PawSox pitchers, but then I told him they were PawSox pitchers. I think 90% of the blogs he’s written since he’s been hired have been about me. I’m not gonna say I think that’s weird, but it’s not not weird, either.
You think the Red Sox were putting in a 100% effort to win those games? Is that why Drew Pomeranz was pitching in what, otherwise, would’ve been a meaningful situation on Saturday night? Is that why Robby Scott got the call in a big spot on Sunday? Is that why JD Martinez was on the bench Sunday? Is that why Xander Bogaerts came out of a game he otherwise would’ve stayed in?
That series was nothing more than a tuneup for the guys who will be in the lineup every game this October, and an audition for the final bullpen spots. I didn’t want it to sound like a knock on him, so that’s why I didn’t say, “Is that why the Red Sox threw William Cuevas out there for five innings?” because he actually pitched great. But if this game had meant something in the regular season, he wouldn’t have seen the mound, and if it were a postseason game, he more than likely wouldn’t have even been on the roster. Same thing goes for Pomeranz and Scott. Those two for sure are not making any postseason roster.
While the series meant nothing in the standings to either team, surely the Indians still had something to gain from the back-to-back walk-off victories — a little something called momentum, which can mean a whole lot this time of year. Outside of that, though, congrats on beating a couple of pitchers who have been in the minors all year.
The Red Sox just need the playoffs to start, so that the hot take machine can stop. Clinching a playoff spot in mid-September is great because it shows how dominant your team is, but waiting half a month for the playoffs to start when you know you’re already in is dry hump city.
Final score: Indians 4, Red Sox 3 — 11 innings
