Jeff Fisher Announced His First Game Yesterday And It Sounded Like He's Been Dead For Weeks

Jeff Fisher announced his first game yesterday. It happened to be the Jets vs Jaguars game so I got an earful all afternoon long.

Do you remember when Tony Romo first started calling games? His knowledge and excitement about the game was contagious. He was calling the plays, shifts, motions, and progressions in real time. He knew who was going to become open and where the weaknesses in the defense were.

“Watch 37 here. He’s cheating up to the line of scrimmage. Motion the tight end here and have him sit in that zone.”

Next thing you know, the tight end was motioning and then making an 8 yard gain on 3rd and 6. Every single person watching the game, including Jim Nantz, was dumbstruck. It didn’t happen once. It happened over and over again.

That didnt happen yesterday with Jeff Fisher. In fact, the opposite happened.

On one play, Jaguars wide reciever DeDe Westbrook made a 12 yard gain on a catch. He fumbled the ball. It was a clear strip and a clear recovery by the Jets. It was so clear that the ref gave the universal signal that it was the Jets ball by pointing in the other direction. The Jets brought in their offense. The Jaguars brought in their defense. The Jets were huddling and calling their plays when Jeff Fisher said, “the Jets might think about challenging here. It looked like it might be a fumble to me.” One second after that came out of his mouth, the Jets snapped the ball.

At the end of the first half, another Jeff Fisher moment happened. The Jaguars had the ball and it was 3rd and 14. Blake Bortles had been dealing. He was good Blake yesterday. On the play, Blake dropped back and dumped the ball underneath to Yeldon for a 4 yard gain. Jeff Fisher said, “great play by the quarterback. When it’s 3rd and long like that, you dont even want the quarterback to look downfield. Just take what the defense gives you and punt the ball away.”

Even if you agree with the things that Jeff Fisher said, the way he said them makes you want to fall asleep. The Jaguars won 31-12 yesterday and I had never been so bored in my entire life. Perhaps that’s because Jeff Fisher’s voice was on my TV. Jeff Fisher, you stink.
