Wake Up With Delmon Young's Bases Clearing Double Vs The Tigers In The ALDS

This is a moment I’ll never forget. Game 2 of the 2014 ALDS, Orioles vs Tigers. We see the Orioles down 6-4, but they have the bases loaded with Delmon Young pinch hitting. My favorite part of the video is how the announcer says that Delmon likes to swing at the first pitch. He can’t even finish the sentence before Young laces the ball down the left field line and buries it in the corner.

The left fielder bobbled the ball at first, and then threw an absolute seed to the cutoff man who made a hell of a throw home.

Nelly Cruz came in from third easily, Steve Pearce motored in from second, and I thought they would hold J.J. Hardy from scoring from first, but nope, not Bobby Dickerson. Windmill sent Hardy and boyyyyyyyyyy was it close. The left fielder bobbled the ball at first, and then threw an absolute seed to the cutoff man who made a hell of a throw home. He slid and barely got in there to beat the tag, I’m talking milliseconds. Boom baby. I remember being at the bar, and I had my blog all typed up, “Orioles head to Detroit tied 1-1″ and they had to face David Price, I had all the bad thoughts in my head. But nope, Delmon decided to put his big balls right on top of the city of Detroit. I was banging my hands on top of the bar so damn hard when Delmon hit that, and still to this day that is the loudest Camden Yards has ever been, it will be hard to beat.

The Delmon Double will always be remembered in Baltimore, and what a call by the crew too. Kept it plain and simple. “CRUZ IS IN, PEARCE IS IN. HARDY AROUND THIRD…….SAFE!”, a lovely call.

PS. This is the best picture from that play for the Orioles. Buck going wild, John Russell going wild, Cruz doing a backflip, Pearce ready to run through a wall. What an image.
