Who Is Going To Be The Next Jack Sparrow?
(Daily Mail) “Superstar Johnny Depp has been dropped from the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise as Disney Studios plans a major reboot, DailyMailTV can reveal. Depp was the major lead in five Pirates movies over the past 15 years – but it appears Captain Jack Sparrow has made his final voyage on the Black Pearl.
Original Pirates script writer Stuart Beattie is the first to publicly confirm that Disney Studios appears to be ditching the star as they rework the entire franchise. Depp, 55, who has been dogged by personal dramas over the past four years, saw his last outing as Sparrow in Dead Men Tell No Tales, which became the lowest performing movie of the films.”
First off, does there need to be any more Pirates movies? We talked about this for a bit on today’s episode of LCB featuring Tyler, and our consensus is that the theme of Pirates has run its course. The original is a blast, holding at a 79% rating on RT. Every one after that, however, has a steadily declining quality and corresponding score.
‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ in particular was very disappointing considering it starred a huge name actor in Javier Bardem. I think we as a moviegoing audience have moved on from pirates, or at least that particular type of whimsical pirate. Ever see a little show called ‘Black Sails’? Probably one of the best shows of the last 10 years.
The real question that comes from this is the title of the blog. Who could even replace Depp as Jack Sparrow? Do they even plan on bringing back the character?
