There's Just Something About The Bertuzzi Family And Sucker Punching Players On The Colorado Avalanche
Last night in the Colorado vs Detroit game, Matt Calvert ended up getting a little caught up in the opposing team’s bench. He took a hit from Mike Green which resulted in Calvert’s stick going flying into the Red Wings’ bench. Then you’ll see Michael Rasmussen hold onto Calvert’s stick from the bench. No harm no foul, really, but if you’re going to grab a guy’s stick from the bench right after he just got rocked, you can’t imagine he’s just going to laugh it off and continue about the rest of his night. So Calvert struggles to get his stick back–which is the Detroit players’ faults in the first place–and in the process of trying to get his stick back he throws a little spear in the direction of Tyler Bertuzzi. Now again, none of this would have happened in the first place if the Detroit player didn’t grab on to Calvert’s stick from the bench in the first place. But as soon as Calvert throws a little something extra at Bertuzzi, Larkin grabs him from the bench and then that’s where Tyler Bertuzzi took a page out of his uncle’s playbook.
Yeah soooooo ya can’t do that.
You can tell he knows he fucked up because immediately after making fist-to-face contact with Calvert, Bertuzzi sits right back down on the bench to pretend like nothing ever happened. You want to sucker punch a guy on the ice? It’s still a little gutless but I get it. But to sucker punch a guy who is already being placed in a headlock by your teammate and you’re on the bench? You must feel like real big and tough man to pull a move like that. And speaking of sucker punches on the ice…
Moral of the story here–if you’re a member of the Colorado Avalanche and you’re playing against a Bertuzzi, just make sure you have your head on a swivel out there. You never know when you’re going to get rocked in the face without even seeing it coming.
