Randy Johnson Pitching On A Game Show Does Nothing Other Than Confirm I Could Bat .500 Off Him
So here we have The Big Unit coming out of retirement to pitch to some Japanese celebrity for fun. 10 pitches to get 1 hit and this poor man’s Ichiro actually makes contact more often than not.
There wasn’t any more of an intimidating force in the ’90’s, or maybe ever, than The Big Unit on the mound. 6’11 with a 99mph heater and a slider that would break from the head to the balls in a nanosecond. As you can see, not so much anymore. Sure, he’s 50 years old, but you would think he has a little more gas in the tank than this. That slider is somewhat filthy at 45mph, but other than that I haven’t seen floaters like those since Scruffy McGee. Put a little fire behind it, Randy.
Give me, or anyone else who played ball through high school, 10 strikes and you get at least 5 hits off this cheese. Guaranteed. That’s assuming he doesn’t fire one over my head at the speed of light. If John Kruk can’t handle the heat then neither can I.
