The Minnesota Timberwolves Have Fired Tom Thibodeau
Just when we’re all trying to enjoy this awesome Eagles/Bears game we have Shams coming from the absolute clouds and dropping this bomb. It’s almost as if the NBA couldn’t let the NFL have the day. Now listen, this was pretty much a matter of when not if. The Timberwolves have been a complete and utter disaster since the summer, and at 19-21, losers of 4 in a row, it was clearly time for Thibs to go. It’s pretty clear the players have been tuning him out for a while, a guy who was supposed to come in and fix their defense currently has the 17th ranked defense. Not bad, but not all that great either.
Thib’s one flaw in my mind other than trying to rebuild his old Bulls teams a billion years later was that he truly never figured out that Karl-Anthony Towns was his best player. Sure it was obvious to everyone else who watched 5 seconds of Wolves basketball, but for too long has Thibs used KAT like a complete idiot. Not to mention that Wiggins hasn’t really progressed in his tenure, and I’m not sure it’s a question as to why this happened. A couple of my friends from college are from Minnesota and I texted them to gauge their reaction. They couldn’t be happier, said it was about damn time. The people of Minnesota are fine people and they deserve a basketball team that isn’t a complete shit show. Granted that’s sort of the Timberwolves thing but there is good young talent there if someone can tap into their potential. My suggestion is don’t go with a hard ass who doesn’t know how to relate to his players and would rather kill himself than play a young player. Not when there are washed up veterans to give minutes to.
Personally, I’ll always have love for Thibs for what he did with the Celtics in 2008, but I think it’s safe to say that what looked like a promising future after making the playoffs last year, overall the Thibs era in Minnesota was a disappointment.
