Al Roker Comes To The Defense Of Meteorologist Fired For Saying, "Martin Luther Coon King Jr Park"
During a live broadcast Friday evening in New York, WHEC chief meteorologist Jeremy Kappell spoke of the weather at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in downtown Rochester, where a Zamboni smoothed over the community ice skating rink.
When he uttered the park’s name, Kappell inserted another word that has been used as a racial slur toward black people.
It looked gray at “Martin Luther coon King Jr. Park,” Kappell said, appearing to stumble over the word “coon.”
Of all the times to get king and coon mixed up, you gotta thing that situation is the worst possible time. You’re live on the air. Alan Majors is ready, willing, and able to roast your ass with his DVR, and you gotta continue on to host the news right after. Just the worst.
Credit to Al Roker here. He could have buried this dude in the weatherman game. Al didnt do that. He saw that a fellow weatherman simply made a mistake and was willing to extend a helping hand. Al doesnt do that all the time. He’s willing to get in the mud with the best of em. If you come at him the wrong way, he’ll drop you like a bag of dirt like he did Teflon Tom.
Honestly, I’d like to think sharting his pants in the White House changed Al and made him a man who understands that shit happens. One minute you’re riding high and the next minute some shit comes out that you didnt want or intend. It happens to the best of us.
