According To Miami Football Head Coach Manny Diaz - Kevin Durant Joining The Warriors Is The Reason Why The Best Recruits In Miami Don't Want To Play For The Hurricanes

[Miami Herald] - “Look, the world has changed, and I’m going to blame the NBA. Once Kevin Durant went to the Warriors after they were 3-1 up when he was at Oklahoma City — kids want to go where the winning is. So, that’s hard because you have to create the winning to get them to come to where the winning is. So, there’s a natural tendency to be drawn to the places that are currently on top, which, that’s fair.

This is it. This is my favorite take ever. I don’t think it will be topped – at least for quite some time. Let’s think about it for a second. Manny Diaz is playing Kevin Durant leaving the Thunder and joining the Warriors after blowing a 3-1 lead as the reason as to why Miami hasn’t recruited well in their own city. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the very average record (by Miami’s standards) here:

I really might just have to start using this excuse for everything. Well, I’d be doing better with my blogs if Kevin Durant didn’t leave the Thunder. Just ruined everything. Blame the NBA and specifically Kevin Durant for all my shortcomings.

Listen, I want Miami to be great again at football. There’s no doubt that college football is better when Miami is competing for national titles. Give me the true U back. But, let’s not act like kids are going to Clemson or Alabama or Georgia because Kevin Durant left for the Warriors. Let’s also not pretend like Kevin Durant was the first player to leave for winning. I mean it’s happened within sports forever. People always want to play for a winner. This isn’t new. It’s also not preventing Miami from recruiting well in Miami.

If you don’t like this blog, blame Kevin Durant.
