Kyler Murray Is Debating Going Pro Between The Wrong Two Professional Sports
We all know the story now. Kyler Murray is debating on whether playing professional baseball in the A’s organization or entering the NFL Draft. Both are fine options, don’t get me wrong. I mean playing at the professional level in any sport is absolutely awesome. Not breaking any news there.
But, he’s picking between the two wrong sports. Now, I know what you’re going to say. Basketball stinks, Reags. Sorry, that’s not my answer either. The real professional sport that Kyler Murray should play is golf. I don’t even know if he’s good at it, he probably is since Kyler Murray is good at everything apparently.
But, playing on the PGA Tour is as good as it gets. And no this isn’t Riggs. This is Reags.
Let me start with the location. You’re traveling to the best locations in the world, bouncing from Hawaii to California to Arizona to Florida playing the best courses in the world. There’s nothing better than that. You’re in a favorable climate for the majority of the year. Again, playing golf. Here’s the schedule for upcoming tournaments:
Doesn’t seem like the worst way to spend the winter months if you ask me.
Then let’s get to the money. If we’re talking about what you’re just earning playing the game and not sponsorships and everything like that we’re still talking about a pretty ridiculous amount. Again, let’s assume that you’re on the PGA Tour here since we’re talking about professional sports. 253 people made at least $1 on the PGA Tour last year. If you’re middle of the pack for the year, you’re walking away with $801,960 (Chad Campbell at No. 126 made this last year). Let’s say you get a sponsorship deal with Titleist as a rookie – that’s another $150,000. Yep, I’ll take that thank you very much.
Then there’s this huge selling point. You’re not getting hit by someone like Khalil Mack or catching a 95 mph on your side. No thank you. Call me a pussy, I don’t care. But, I prefer not getting hit. If you want to get hit, go ahead. I’ll stand there and swing the club and listen for a fore call.
Let’s not forget that you can play with a bit of a buzz or hungover. I mean sure baseball this can happen too, especially if you’re a pitcher. But, golfers? You can go party if you want, especially if you have a later tee time. We’ve seen guys throw in a lipper on the course as well.
Finally, you can make money for a whole hell of a lot longer in golf than any other sport. Well, unless you’re Bobby Bonilla and sign with the Mets. But, really you’re able to stay on the professional tour for 20ish years just raking in money.
