Angels Sign Cody Allen to One-Year Deal to Be Their Closer, Indians Fans Rejoice!
Let me start by saying that I am NOT happy with the Cleveland Indians off-season thus far. In fact, I’d classify myself as mad. We’ve traded away our All-Star catcher Yan Gomes for no other reason than to save $8 million. We’ve traded away our power hitter, Edwin Encarnacion, to bring back a 1st baseman that is most known for walking, not hitting. But it will save us money in the long run! And we’ve allowed both Michael Brantley and Andrew Miller to walk out by choosing not to pay them their free market money. Pinching pennies does not win championships! Not to mention, I have a feeling our merchandise sales will be very down this year too, seeing as we gotten rid of the traditional Chief Wahoo logo and replaced it with a stupid letter of the alphabet.
The Chief is our biggest loss of the offseason! But GM Chris Antonetti swears we’re not rebuilding. And Terry Francona says “We will not be taking a step backwards this year.” Ummm, what? We’ve lost former 4 All-Stars from last year’s team, and I’m not sure anything we’ve gotten in return actually makes us better. So far, this off-season has been a big swing and a miss.
Now, with all of this bitching I’m doing about losing our former players, you may think that allowing our old closer Cody Allen to go sign with the Angels would also irk me. But let me make this clear: it does NOT. Obviously, the fact that we traded for Brad Hand last year means that Allen wasn’t going to be resigned. But you also have to factor in the fact that Cody Allen STINKS. He is literally a walking earned run. Well, he hasn’t always been. But he is now. He posted a 4.70 ERA last year, had 5 blown saves, walked 33 in 67 innings, and served up 11 home runs. All while watching his fastball lose velocity. Get used to this look, Angels fans.
That’s how he walks off the field after blowing a save. And this is how he quickly wants a new ball after someone tees off on him in the top of the 9th. Please note the runner rounding 3rd.
And this is what his postgame stat line will look.
4 pitches. 2 hits. 2 runs. Hahahah, good riddance Cody! Finally a good move from the Indians. Now please God, do not trade Corey Kluber to the damn Yankees.
