The NCAA Needs To Hire Me To Save Itself, Basketball And Really America
I’ve said it before but I’ve never been more serious than now. The NCAA needs to hire me and put me in charge of college basketball. It will save the sport and really America. I’ve never been more confident in this after watching the Tennessee/Vanderbilt game last night where even Saints fans feel bad for Vandy.
Why do you ask? Just check the video above.
The hook and hold and reviews are ruining the game. In fact, it’s a large part as to why Tennessee won the game last night at Vandy. Yes, Vandy turned it over and I do blame them for losing the game because of that. But it went from a 6 point game and having the ball to a 2 point game and having the ball because of this call.
That’s a joke.
The worst part is the ref went to the monitor, looked at it for like 5 minutes and still called a flagrant. Actually, he upgraded it to a flagrant. On the court it was just a regular foul. On top of that it wasn’t even a hook and hold!
There was a slight hook, but no hold. It looked a whole lot worse because of the way Williams fell. An unfortunate fall for sure, but no hook and hold. It was more of a flop than anything else.
I’m willing to bet there’s no one at the NCAA that watches more college hoops than me. There’s few people out there that watch more college hoops than me. I can fix this.
First, we get rid of the hook and hold. It’s the dumbest thing for the NCAA to make a case about. This was a point of emphasis only because Isaac Haas suffered a bizarre injury in last year’s NCAA Tournament. One injury! Unfortunate but not one to change the way the entire game is played.
I get player safety and I’m all for that obviously, but this is the extreme. We’re seeing everyone who covers the game complain about it and for good reason. There’s no need to call a flagrant foul. There’s no reason to stop the monitor every time. Plus, guess what? Teams know about this and are purposely trying to lock an arm to draw the flagrant foul.
I have plenty of other ideas that you all probably know about. I won’t get into those again and these are just ideas for stuff on the court. But, we need to limit the reviews to 30 seconds. Don’t let teams huddle up with their coaches. Keep one ref back to make sure that doesn’t happen. If you can’t tell a call in 30 seconds, it’s not conclusive and keep the call on the court. Let’s get the game going.
I’m willing to save the NCAA. They just need to acknowledge I can do it and save the sport in time for the NCAA Tournament.
