Wake Up With Chicago's 2011 SnowMageddon
Worst week of weather in a long time they’re saying. Wednesday has a HIGH of -13. Snowing 4 out of 5 days. Freezing rain on the weekend. Average low of -9 until Friday. The whole thing fucking blows indeed and you won’t hear me say otherwise.
That said it’s time to pay some respect to the greatest snow storm of my life, 2011’s SnowMageddon. An event that saw almost 2 feet of good hard powder fall in about 4 hours. If you were living in the city around then, you definitely have stories about that week. My personal favorite was watching my buddy spin this lady’s Range Rover out in the middle of Sheffield & Armitage at about 2am. We were coming back to my apartment from Kincades and saw this beautiful Range Rover stuck bad patch. The driver was gassing the shit out of it, ready to blow her transmission when my buddy opened the driver door and – more or less – forced the nice lady from her car. She was startled, obviously. He was intoxicated, heavily. But with the right touch he was able to free her car from the clutches of this particular snow bank and then he promptly executed half a dozen donuts in the middle of what is usually an extremely high traffic intersection. We all had so much fun, especially the woman who thought she was getting car jacked by a couple of Good Samaritans.
Anyways here’s a robust catalogue of SnowMageddon pictures to remind you that things could always be much, much worse.
