HUGE Sports Take: Catchiest Theme Song In Sports Is "Go Cubs Go"
This is not me declaring for a sports team in any way whatsoever. I’m not saying the Cubs are the greatest and I’m not saying they’re bad. I think by now you know I have no dog in this race or horse in this fight or whatever the saying is. I’m just saying that as sports theme songs go, “Go Cubs Go” is not only a banger, but it is a certified earworm that will never leave your head once it’s in there. If you already know the song, it’s probably already in your head just from reading the title. But if you don’t know it:
When I tell you this song has been stuck in my head on and off since I was about 13, I’m not exaggerating. Every once in a while I’ll be minding my own business and I’ll start humming and realize I’m humming “Go Cubs Go”.
Again, the argument here is not that the song is amazing or that the Cubs are amazing. This isn’t a baseball blog. This isn’t a music blog. This is just stating that the song is catchy as heck, and I would go so far as to say it’s the catchiest sports team theme song ever written. There are team songs that invoke a feeling, like New York, New York (which is objectively a better song) or songs that make you hype, like Sweet Caroline, but again i’m not arguing what song is BEST. I’m saying in terms of earworms, Go Cubs Go takes the trophy.
Don’t believe me? That’s fine. Wait until 2pm. I promise, you’ll be sitting at your cubicle humming “Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today” and curse me for ever writing this blog. You’re welcome!!
