Dean Ambrose Will Be Leaving The WWE Following WrestleMania
Ah, this is a bummer…and a pretty big shocker, as well!
I know not everybody is as high on Dean Ambrose as we once were – following the breakup of The Shield he seemed poised to be one of the biggest stars we’ve seen in quite a while – but after getting years and years worth of enjoyment out of his work on television, it’ll be a shame to see him go, for me, at least.
As of right now, we really have no details or information at all for why he’s opting to let his contract expire instead of renewing it, but a reaction I’ve seen from fans all day regarding the rumors around this story has been, “Can’t blame him!”, as many believe Vince McMahon and the rest of WWE creative have squandered opportunity after opportunity for the “Lunatic Fringe”, ESPECIALLY since his return/heel turn this year.
If that’s the case, and he’d like to continue wrestling, I would love to see what he could do over in Japan, or even obviously the newest promotion to arise in the professional wrestling landscape: All Elite Wrestling.
Going back to those Jon Moxley style ruthless, vulgar, and raw promos is a cliche ask, but one I feel comes with good reason, as they really were the shit. Super Brian Pillman-esque in a lot of ways we rarely received the privilege of seeing on WWE television.
There’s always the chance he’s just burnt out and sick of wrestling, as well, and it’d make sense as he has arguably been the company’s biggest workhorse for a few years running now, and if that is why he’s leaving – I hope he figures out what makes him happy and goes after it.
Oh, and obviously, I hope that if his in-real-life wife, Renee Young, chooses to stay with the company (and I selfishly want her to, as a huge fan of her work), that Vince and the rest of the higher-ups aren’t petty enough to punish her for this like AJ Lee claimed they punished her and treated her differently for CM Punk’s actions. She really is fantastic in every role she’s been put in so far, and is getting better and better at the commentary desk by the week. If she chooses to leave with him, though, it’d be very understandable. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
