Lets Rewatch Every Vince Carter Dunk On The Anniversary Of The Greatest Dunk Contest Ever
First off, how the hell is this 19 years ago? I still remember this vividly. This will go down as the best individual dunk contest I think we’ll see. Carter a young guy just pulling off dunks that had everyone talking at the lunch table on Monday.
Not only that but it gave us one of the historical lines in gif history and in Internet history. ‘It’s over.’ So simple. So perfect.
Now let’s get into the dunks. But, first, how cocky was it that the broadcast starts with Marv saying Carter told Kenny Smith he has 4 dunks that no one has ever seen. What outrageous expectations to begin with and then actually deliver.
The way he starts with the windmill 360 just sets the tone. First, he makes it look way too casual. Just like a regular dunk. Again, this is 2000. That wasn’t normal. Then there’s the one from under the bucket that’s a windmill 360.
Then shit starts to go off the rails. The between the legs with McGrady involved. The elbow hanging in the rim. Just the best individual dunk contest performance I’ve seen. It’s worth watching 100 times today.
Low key one of my favorite things were the guys like Shaq in attendance with massive cameras. God, I miss the early 2000s.
