Jets Avoiding Revis' Reps At The Combine
PFT – Indianapolis is a connected and accessible city, with nearly every downtown hotel used during the NFL Scouting Combine hooked together by a network of indoor walkways. But somehow, the Jets and the representatives for cornerback Darrelle Revis failed to cross paths in nearly a week there. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets “avoided” their cornerback’s people, fueling concerns that the team is looking to move on rather than extend his contract. Maybe they were busy giving Jim Brown a physical? According to the report, neither new general manager John Idzik, coach Rex Ryan nor owner Woody Johnson didn’t meet or have contact with Revis’ representatives during the week. The Jets did meet with the reps of a number of other players. That’s not going to do anything to dampen the speculation that the Jets would prefer to trade Revis than pay him. While Ryan was cracking jokes about trading Revis for 77-year-old running backs last week, the general theme of his appearance in the media room was that he didn’t want to part with the All-Pro corner, who is coming off a torn ACL. But Revis said during an interview on the NFL Network that the lack of a new deal “might be a situation,” and the two sides apparently did nothing to bridge the gap in Indy.
How can Idzik already suck at being a GM? How is that possible? How can he be botching the first situation he’s presented with? It honestly makes me think when you join the Jets in any capacity something happens to you on the inside. Its like you become a different person. Its like when Jim Carrey puts on the Mask except in this case as soon as you join the Jets organization you become a pathetic idiot. Because right now all reports indicate the Jets approach to the Revis situation is “hide from him.” And while I understand that Woody and Rex have been institutionalized and have been conditioned to be idiots for years now, you’d think Idzik would still have the brains to understand that the Jets are completely fucking themselves here.
There’s 2 ways to approach the Revis situation. 1) Pay him what he’s truly worth and make him a defensive cornerstone for the rest of his prime, or 2) Trade him for a boatload of picks. Dancing around either of these options and hiding from him and avoiding him is a surefire way to make sure neither happens. Treating him like your 8th grade girlfriend that you’re afraid to dump will ensure that A) he wants no part of the Jets and/or B) his trade value, already lessened coming off an ACL injury, will hit absolute rock bottom.
PS – In the never-ending “Which organization is worse?” power rankings between the Mets and Jets the Jets are officially number 1 right now. The Mets are actually trending in the right direction for once. Clean slate, no albatross contracts, young promising talent. The Mets are gonna win 69 games and in my mind they are the better organization. Just thought I’d keep you guys updated with my misery.
