Highlights From The Steph Curry/Tyson Chandler Show Last Night
In case you missed it last night, highlights from last night’s Knicks/Warriors game at the Garden. The 3 minute youtube highlight reel is probably still one of the best things you’ve seen in sports this year. I know David Lee was sitting on the bench last night and the Warriors weren’t at full strength but still a phenomenal W for the Knicks. Its not if D Lee was in there they wouldn’t have just been feeding Steph Curry the ball anyway. Didn’t matter who else was on the floor last night for Golden State.
Its not every night where someone drops almost 60 and you still come away with the W. You pretty much gotta play as close to a perfect game as you can to overcome a performance like that. And thats basically what the Knicks did. Melo tosses up 35 and 8 assists. JR Smith has one of his most efficient games of the year – 26 points on over 50% shooting. Tyson Chandler obviously with one of the best big man performances of the year – 16 and 28 boards, 10 offensive. Reminding Knicks fans he’s worth every penny of that max contract. And last but not least, BIG time execution in the final minutes of that game. Ray Felton was getting absolutely torched by Steph Curry all night. Awful game the first 46 minutes. But some big time defense and rebounding down the stretch from him is what put that game on ice for the Knicks. Another classic 2012-2013 Knicks W where they shoot 34 three’s but make up for it with only 10 turnovers. 11-34 from beyond the arc looks gruesome – especially when one dude at the Garden last night shot 11-13 – but when you limit your turnovers and maximize your possessions you can get away with shooting only 30-something percent from 3. Its something they’ve done all year.
PS – People always talk about the Knicks historical success and question why MSG is the Mecca of basketball. And rightfully so. They won 2 NBA titles 30 years ago. I understand they aren’t one of the most prolific franchises in the League. But when you see guys like Steph Curry having “his Garden Moment” and falling in line with Kobe and Lebron and all the other greats that have dialed it up a notch over the past years, you understand why people talk that way. The lights are brighter, the stage is bigger, everyone always comes to the Garden to play. I’m not saying its the only arena where it happens. I’m not saying New York is the best NBA franchise. I’m just saying there’s no denying classic games are different here in New York. Unfortunately the Knicks are usually on the wrong end of those greats taking it to the next level – thats why last night, when you can still come away with a W and some classic performances from the Good Guys, is so perfect.
