On John Mayer's Instagram Live Last Night Dave Chappelle Called Daniel Caesar "Very Gay" And It Was SUUUUPER Awkward
So last night was another episode of John Mayer’s ‘Current Mood’ Instagram live show. Every Sunday night I tuck myself nice and cozy into bed, maybe dabble in some calming activities, and put on John Mayer’s Instagram live show. He usually speaks some wisdom and gets me ready for the week so I enjoy it and last night was no different. John had announced Chappelle would be coming on the show and I actually was more excited than usual. Jokes were flying as Dave Chappelle let everyone know how high and drunk he was and the hilarity continued until… THE MOST AWKWARD MOMENT TO EVER HAPPEN ON CURRENT MOOD happened.
John Mayer was getting ready to introduce his next guest, Daniel Caesar, as Dave Chappelle goes on to call him “very gay” out of nowhere. John was probably going to go with the usual introduction, “Grammy winning singer Daniel Caesar” but instead Dave went with “very gay!”

As soon as he said it, the entire mood of the room changed. I wasn’t in the room but I can tell that it changed. Dave then moved into another joke where he said he thought he was John’s only black friend. Silence again. Imagine watching this LIVE! I had no idea what was going to happen next. John then asks Daniel if he’s ready to perform and this is where it gets even more awkward. Daniel says he isn’t ready to perform because he’s offended by what Dave said and they end up going back and forth to the point Dave actually brings up FIST FIGHTING ON THE SHOW! WHAT! I honestly don’t even know if Daniel Caesar is gay or not considering I have tried looking it up and have gotten no info but this whole thing was so uncomfortable.
After going back and forth, Dave Chappelle doesn’t want to apologize for his joke but feels bad if he offended Daniel. Daniel eventually says that he was being too sensitive and they ended up making up in the end but HOLY SHIT. I couldn’t believe I was watching this all unfold live on Instagram. Listen, I don’t know what else to say about this this whole thing besides the fact that it was just SUPER fucking awkward. Shout out to John Mayer for doing the best job that he can at fixing the situation. It was a goddamn rollercoaster watching live but it all worked out in the end.
