Michael Bennett Saying He Used to Hate Brady & the Pats but Now Loves Them is My Favorite Michael Bennett

NFL: AUG 16 Preseason - Eagles at Patriots

Remember on Tuesday when we heard how newest Patriot and presumptive replacement for Trey Flowers Michael Bennett “was looking forward to engaging Belichick and Brady” about their friendships with the president? Because, you know, nothing settles our differences like a little open and frank discussing of politics. Just check your Facebook page. (That is, if it’s not all still completely haywire thanks to some simple “server configuration change” that wasn’t at all related to your personal information being hacked.) Yup, healthy socio-political debates between people who hate the National Anthem and guys who own autographed MAGA hats have been bringing people together in this country for years now.

Well on that front, we have good news. From the Patriots official site:

“I used to hate the Patriots. I hated it because they would win so much. I hated it because Tom Brady’s hair was long. I hated that Belichick would wear sweaters. But now that I’m here, I love it. I love Tom Brady’s hair. I love being a Patriot, obviously. Because it’s all about winning. I think everything about the organization is being Team First. And just about doing what we need to do to get to where we want to go as a group. I just love that. …

“The greatest part is the opportunity to talk to coaches and see how much coaches admired you from afar and now to have the opportunity to be able to talk football, just talk about winning, talk about life, and just talk about different philosophies that they live by, I think that is the best part about it. Getting the chance to pick all these different coaches brains about the success they have and the downfalls and what makes a great player, what doesn’t make a great player.”

And there we go. It’s still just the beginning of the process here, but so far so good. That right there is the best case scenario when you bring in a player who’s been productive as hell, but also a lightning rod on and off the field into the most controlled, controversy-adverse locker room in all of sports. Bennett is here to talk football, winning, life and philosophies. All of which are good things.

Look, no one is saying you’re not entitled to your beliefs, your personal priorities, your causes. Just so long as you leave them in the car when you pull into work and don’t let them interfere with the job at hand. That goes for everybody. For the good of all, workplace debates should be limited to organizational goals and topics like how sexy a pregnant Helen Mirren would be:

But the bottom line is Bennett has been won over by the culture and success of the Patriots. And by Belichick’s clothes. And by Brady’s full, luxurious, perfected coiffed and pH-balanced hair. As long as that keeps up, everything else will be smooth sailing.
